Calamityville
Goal: Create a one of a kind tactical training center to serve the global medical community.
Calamityville is a National Center for Medical Readiness training center (tactical lab) designed to integrate medical readiness into all aspects of healthcare, public safety, public health and homeland security systems. The training center is located on 54 acres of the former CEMEX concrete site in Fairborn, OH. Clean Ohio Revitalization Funds (CORF) is the source funding for this brown field site. The first phase of the project included a master plan to outline future growth at the site. Strategic consideration was given with regards to Wright State University and partner organizations Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Army National Guard, the Fairborn business community and residential components adjacent to the site. A renovation to the Training Center building and the 22,000 square foot warehouse was completed in 2011.
Included in the master plan were elements utilizing many of the other structures on site as possible training features. The site is envisioned to be a “one of a kind” readiness training center with the look and feel of an academic campus. The Calamityville campus will include a number of complex training props to include a multi-acre debris pile with underground maze features, an approximate one acre pond with underwater training features, an underground confined training maze (utilizing existing tunnels on site), a mock city block, and an above ground transportation mishap training area(s). Based on funding availability, the project will be implemented in several phases.
