SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INCOMING FIRST-YEAR HONORS STUDENTS (Direct from High School)
Incoming Wright State University
students are eligible to compete for Competitive Honors
Scholarships, ranging from
$2,500 up to the amount of in-state tuition. The online scholarship application deadline is February 15, 2010. However, to ensure that your scholarship application will reach the selection committee in a timely fashion, submit a complete Undergraduate Admissions Application and copies of current transcripts from all institutions from which you have received college credit to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by January 15.
The Online Competitive Honors Scholarship Application must be completed by February 15. (The link will be available in November 2009.) The online scholarship application cannot be saved for revision; therefore, you will need to have the following ready before you start your online application:
- A list of extracurricular activities, community service, offices held, and awards or honors received.
- The names and contact information for two references (academic teachers, high school counselors, etc.) who are willing to provide information about your classroom performance.
- A brief essay (500-750 words) on one of the following prompts:
-- Describe your greatest leadership or service experience.
-- What do you think people who know you would be surprised to learn about you?
-- What has been your most surprising or profound intellectual experience?
Competitive Honors Scholarship finalists may be
invited to campus for a personal interview with
the selection committee. The Honors Scholarship Committee also selects two Trustees Scholarship recipients, who will receive in-state tuition, room/board, and books. All Competitive Honors
scholarships are renewable for three additional years.
In addition, WSU offers numerous Academic
Performance Scholarships for first-year students, which are awarded
from the admissions applications received
by February 15.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CONTINUING HONORS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Honors Program also regularly offers attractive scholarships for continuing and transfer students. Another small fund assists Honors students
who have been active in the Honors Program for at least a year to study
outside the United States. Consult the Honors Office for details on
these opportunities.
National and International Scholarships
Students interested in national scholarships should contact the National Scholarship Resource Center in the Honors Program Office for further details on a wide variety of national scholarships available to outstanding students.

- For All Honors Scholarships
All scholarship recipients are required to be registered as full-time
students and to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The first
quarter a student's cumulative GPA drops below 3.0, a warning is issued.
The scholarship may be terminated if the student's GPA falls below 3.0
for a second quarter.
All recipients are expected to plan their schedules in close consultation
with the Honors Program. This means meeting annually to plan a program
of study and reporting any quarterly deviations.
Students must earn A's or Bs in Honors courses to count them toward
the minimum number required by the terms of their scholarships or the
number required for graduation with an Honors degree. Students who earn
Cs in Honors courses may count these hours toward graduation and toward
fulfilling university or major requirements.
Scholarship funds for payment of tuition and fees will not be released
for students who fail to comply with any of these procedures. An Honors
Scholarship Appeals Committee will review a decision to terminate a
scholarship at either the student's or the director's request.
