Dr. Susan Carrafiello, associate
professor of history, was appointed director
of the University Honors Program in 2001.
She is responsible for the program's main
objectives, emphases, and purposes. As the
key advocate for the Honors Program, she
recruits Honors faculty, plans faculty teaching
workshops, and fosters development of new
Honors courses and new program initiatives.
She works with college
deans and department chairs to monitor departmental
Honors options. Faculty who would like to
teach Honors courses should contact her
well before a proposed Honors course is
to be scheduled. Honors students who have
any concerns or suggestions about any aspect
of the Honors Program are encouraged to
contact her for an appointment. |

Alex N. Wenning, M.A., Associate Director

Alex Wenning joined the University Honors Program in January 2008. Wenning holds responsibility for curriculum development, and he provides overall leadership for student development, including the implementation of all phases of enrollment management and student services for Honors students. He manages the Honors scholarship program for incoming, continuing, and transfer students, and he administers the WSU National Scholarship Resource Center. A former Honors student, Wenning earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wright State (University Honors Scholar) and a Master of Arts in English from Ball State University. In addition to his role at WSU, he is currently serving a three-year term on the Executive Committee of the Mid East Honors Association, the local region of the National Collegiate Honors Council. |
Lindsay B. Tolchin, M.Ed., Assistant Director

Lindsay Tolchin joined the University Honors Program in July 2010. Previously she advised honors students at Miami University in Ohio and the University at Buffalo in New York. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester, majoring in Japanese and psychology, and a Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University at Buffalo. Between undergrad and grad school she also spent two years living and working in Japan as an English teacher. In her free time Lindsay enjoys reading, baking, shopping, and running when she is motivated. |
| Jane P. Blakelock, M.A., Faculty-in-Residence

Jane Blakelock is the Honors program’s Faculty-in-Residence. Her role is unique to the Honors Community and exists to support the academic goals of its residents. Ms. Blakelock welcomes the opportunity to help students make satisfying connections between residence hall life and academe, connections that sustain personal and academic growth in and beyond classroom walls. A lifelong area resident, Ms. Blakelock earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wright State, and teaches as a lecturer in the Department of English, where she pilots and supports newer classroom technologies, develops online courses, and supervises college web interns. Her interests include the impact of Web 2.0 technologies and social networking on communication and education; leisurely bicycling; digital photography; amateur live music gatherings; and sharing food and cooking knowledge at informal dinner parties. |

A Wright State employee since 1984 and a proud WSU graduate (B.A. English [Professional Writing Concentration]), Lori
Dock joined the University Honors Program in August
2005. Her
experience at WSU has included supporting the academic and outreach efforts for
Developmental Education, Alumni Relations, the College of
Liberal Arts, and the Office of Development. She also currently serves as the secretary and treasurer for the Wright State Chapter (252) of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

Alyssa Evans is a senior international studies major from Van Wert, Ohio, who dreams of working for a non-profit or NGO in the future. She is the co-founder of WSU’s Invisible Children Schools4Schools club and is involved with various other philanthropic efforts. In her free time she enjoys traveling, playing the guitar, spending time with family and close friends, and all things artistic.

Katie Petrie is a junior nursing major from Celina, Ohio. She enjoys reading, listening to music, spending time with friends, and helping out on her family's farm.

Elizabeth Schoppelrei is a freshman English and Spanish major from Columbus, Ohio. She enjoys reading, writing, spending time with her friends, rock climbing, and swimming. Her dream is to find a job that brings her joy. |
