Registration

Each student organization must participate in the annual registration process to be a recognized student organization through the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership. Student organizations will result in their constitution when the term of their officers and leadership positions begin and end. Registration periods are available on an academic term and a calendar term.

The registration application is the first part of completing the SORT program. Student organizations will receive a notification when their registration application is open on the landing page of their student organization Engage profile. Student organizations must provide the following information in their registration application:

  • One (1) president*
  • One (1) treasurer*
  • One (1) full-time faculty or staff advisor
  • A constitution and/or bylaws
  • A minimum of 6 members.

* The president and treasurer are not permitted to be the same student for liability purposes.

Training

Following the registration application, student organization leaders must complete the required training to obtain active status as a registered student organization. The training is provided in-person and online throughout each open registration period. All training must be completed by the indicated deadline to participate in campus-wide events.

The in–person training “Intro to Student Organization” will be offered multiple times throughout each open training period. This specific training will be provided via WebEx and will last about 20 minutes. SIL will provide all other online training through Engage, where students can complete the training at their own leisure. Online training can take 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Online training will have a pre-recorded video provided to watch, follow, and form to answer questions and participate in activities. For all training, student leaders must complete the training-specific form to be counted for their attendance. The training is designed for the student leader to participate in role-specific training to elevate their knowledge and best prepare them for their role and responsibilities.

The required training is as follows:

  • Intro to Student Organizations
  • Intro to Leadership
  • Banking with SIL
  • Agenda and Meeting Minutes
  • Managing Engage
  • Policy and Procedure
