Presidential Search

Community Update from the Chair, October 2016

Dear members of the Wright State University Community:

On behalf of the WSU Presidential Search and Screening Advisory Committee (S-SAC), I am writing to update you on progress in our search for Wright State University’s seventh president. October was a busy month!

Our first two phases of the search are now complete and we have entered the third phase of our process – the search phase. This is the critical phase of our search as we begin recruiting top candidates from across the nation to become our next president.

The search for candidates will be based upon a presidential profile created in conjunction with our search partner, Academic Search. The profile – approved by the WSU Board of Trustees in public session on October 26th – outlines the opportunities for the new president; provides background on the university; and describes attributes and experience the search committee and university community are looking for in a new president.

You can view the profile on WSU’s presidential search website: https://www.wright.edu/presidential-search/prospective-candidates.

This profile was written based upon feedback from thousands of WSU stakeholders both on and off campus. The search committee sponsored three public forums and a public symposium, conducted individual and group interviews, and sent a search survey to every student, faculty member, and staff member at WSU. The feedback we received was truly helpful in determining the best attributes for WSU’s next president.

Please visit the presidential website for videos of the presidential symposium, results of the email survey, and notes from each of the public forums.

If you want to nominate someone for the presidential position, please contact Academic Search at WrightStatePres@academic-search.com. Also, please feel free to share WSU’s presidential profile with your networks – we are casting a wide net to find the best possible president for our university.

We remain on schedule to present to the Board of Trustees one or more highly qualified and acceptable candidates from whom to choose as WSU’s seventh president. Our remaining timeline includes:

  • November: Begin sourcing candidates.
  • December: Initial screening of candidates; semifinalists selected.
  • January: Initial in-person interviews; finalists selected for on-campus visits.
  • March: Search committee presents acceptable candidates to the Board of Trustees.
  • April: Board of Trustees conducts final interviews and appoints WSU’s seventh president.
  • May: Transition-In activities for new president and Transition-Out activities for Dr. Hopkins begin.
  • July: New president begins work.

For the latest information and news on WSU’s presidential search, I encourage you to regularly visit the WSU search website at www.wright.edu/presidential-search.

The search is going well and we appreciate your support!
