About

Family Weekend is a celebration of those who support our Raiders. Gather your families in whatever way that looks for you, and join us for a weekend of activities on and off campus. 

The schedule of events is below. You can expect a variety of events and opportunities to engage with your student and campus partners. You can also learn about all the family-friendly stops, area shopping, and places to stay in our area!

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

7–8:30 p.m.

Wright State ArtsLive!

Levitt Pavilion

Dayton, OH 45402

School of Fine and Performing Arts Students kick off the 25th Anniversary of ArtsGala at the Levitt Pavilion in downtown Dayton. The event will feature visual arts creations by Wright State Art Program students and faculty, performances by Wright State Dance students, short film selections by students in the Wright State Motion Pictures, Wright State Music Program Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble performances, and musical numbers by Wright State Theatre students.

Take a bus from Wright State to Levitt Pavilion! A bus will be leaving the Student Union at 6:30 p.m. and returning around 9:30 p.m.

Open access to Campus Recreation 

092 Student Union 

Enjoy the university’s campus recreation facilities and scheduled classes with open access for those participating in Family Weekend. Student needs to be present with family who use the facility. 

9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Walk-in Hours with Raider Connect

130 Student Union

Check on student accounts and billing to make sure the semester is on track, and learn more about how to make the most of financial assistance and scholarships throughout your student’s education.

9:05–10 a.m.

Basic conducting

Drs. Jagow and Nagir and their students welcome you to sit in on a class as they combine their MUS 3230 (choir and band) Basic Conducting courses in room 180 of the Creative Arts Center.

11 a.m.–Noon

A Taste of CoLA

Come get a "taste" of the College of Liberal Arts (CoLA)!

Come grab some information about our programs (majors, minors, and certificates), get some great WSU CoLA swag, and a taste of some interesting "colas"!

The Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries (Project Space)

Creative Arts Center

The Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries function as an educational resource for Wright State University and the greater Dayton metropolitan area. The galleries strive to fill educational and cultural opportunities in our region by exhibiting exceptional contemporary art in a variety of media. The current exhibit is Ebb & Flow - a collection of artworks that embody the essence of a Zen Garden.

Family Game Night in the Library

Dunbar Library

Join Table Top Club in the Library for games and snacks. There will be family-friendly board and interactive opportunities available for everyone to join in and enjoy.

Live Karaoke Band

Student Union Apollo Room

Get ready to be the star of the show during Live Band Karaoke! Step up to the stage and sing your heart out with the support of a talented live band backing you up. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just looking to have some fun, this interactive and energetic experience promises a night of unforgettable entertainment for the whole family.

Pancakes with the President

Student Union Apollo Room

Join the President and other university officials for a pancake breakfast prepared by Katie’s Pancakes. During the reception, you'll listen to the President's Address and gain insight into our university's achievements and future endeavors. The heartwarming Family of the Year Award will be presented here.

10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Open access to Campus Recreation

092 Student Union

Enjoy the university’s campus recreation facilities and scheduled classes with open access for those participating in Family Weekend. Student needs to be present with family who use the facility. 

11–11:30 a.m.

Student union tours

Tour the new Student Union featuring the renovated Identity Centers, Student Involvement and Leadership Center, and E-Sports Lounge, and finish at Raider Landing, the new university bookstore. Learn about the other exciting opportunities headed to the Student Union.

11–11:30 a.m.

Study Abroad Info Session

This session focused on opportunities for students to study abroad and explore international educational experiences. Attendees will learn about the various study abroad programs offered by the university, the application process, available scholarships, and the benefits of studying in a different country.

11 a.m.–Noon

Campus Hike in the Woods

Did you know Wright State has hiking trails on campus? Join the Outdoor Recreation team for a morning hike around the campus woods. Wear comfortable shoes (no flip-flops or open-toed shoes) and clothing. Bug repellant and water bottles are encouraged. The hike is beginner-friendly. 

11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Raider Lawn Games and Activities 

Create cherished memories at the photo booth, and enjoy a variety of lawn games, including cornhole, ladder golf, and thrilling minute-to-win-it challenges. Get ready for a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and excitement as you engage in field day-style games that will bring the whole family together for a fantastic time. 

11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Salsa and Dominos Tournament

Student Union Apollo Room

Dance to the infectious beats with thrilling salsa lessons and live music by the talented Dayton Salsa Project. Feel the rhythm as you learn new moves on the dance floor. And that's not all! Engage in a friendly dominos competition and test your strategic skills against fellow participants. The dominos tournament guarantees friendly rivalry and is open to all skill levels.

6–10 p.m.

Sapphire Jubilee

Student Union Atrium
$75/person

This is the signature fundraiser for the African American Alumni Society Scholarship and helps support the mission and work of the Bolinga Center at Wright State University. Enjoy a night of music, dancing, and an array of African dishes, all while supporting the success of African-American students at Wright State. The Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center, and celebrating its new location in the Student Union.

Women's Volleyball

McLin Gym at the Nutter Center

Calling all proud Raider families! Come experience an unforgettable moment of athletic prowess and family bonding at Wright State University's Women's Volleyball Team home game. The air will be charged with excitement and school spirit as we unite to cheer on our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to support our dedicated players and showcase the unbreakable bond of the Raider community. So, grab your Wright State gear, gather the family, and let's create lasting memories together in this action-packed event! Go Raiders!

Two-Person Golf Scramble

Beavercreek Golf Club
$50/person

Campus Recreation is hosting an intramural golf outing, plated in pairs of two (2) in a scramble style. Register on imleagues.com by September 8. Hotdog, chips, and drink included.
