CTL Reorganization Effective January 1

A Letter from Provost Steven R. Angle:

Now, more than ever, it is important that we use our funds wisely and minimize overhead costs. As part of a series of efforts to examine specific areas of operation at Wright State University, eliminate duplication, and achieve greater efficiencies through the consolidation of similar functions, an ad hoc committee was charged with the review of campus instructional technology operations. Over the past several months, the committee’s report was reviewed, discussed, refined, and an implementation plan was developed. I want to share the organizational changes that will result from this process, effective January 1, 2010:

  • Computing and Telecommunications Services (CaTS) will integrate classroom services currently housed in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) with desktop services currently housed in CaTS into a one-stop service model. CaTs will also assume responsibility for classroom engineering and design, which will result in a higher degree of coordination for the design and building of classrooms. In addition, they will assume responsibility for television services.
  • The events team staff from CTL will be re-assigned to the Student Union within the Division of Student Affairs and will continue to support the audio and visual services for special events through Event Services.
  • Photography and videography staff will join the Office of Communications and Marketing within the Division of Advancement. This will broaden the scope and compliment the university’s marketing and communications services unit. Technical graphic support for faculty will remain within the CTL.

These changes will allow the remaining CTL staff to focus on their core mission of providing resources to support faculty in the use of faculty development, technology in teaching, and distance education.

As additional operational plans in these respective areas develop, we will continue to make you aware of changes that impact the campus community.
