Student Proxy Access

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Wright State University cannot share your student information with anyone—including parents, spouses, or employers—unless you give explicit permission.

You grant that permission using Student Proxy Access in WINGS.

What Counts as Your Student Record?

Your student record may include:

  • Academic information
  • Billing information
  • Financial aid information

What Is Student Proxy Access?

Student Proxy Access allows you to:

  • Give selected individuals access to parts of your student record
  • Control what they see, how long they have access, and whether they can speak to university personnel on your behalf

Important: Proxy Access is separate from access to online billing and payments. For payments, use Parent/Authorized User – Billing.

Who Can Be a Proxy?

Anyone with a valid email address, including:

  • Parents or guardians
  • Spouses
  • Any other third party you choose

You remain in full control at all times.

How Students Set Up Proxy Access (Step-by-Step)

  1. Log in to WINGS
  2. Select Student Academics
  3. Click Proxy Management
  4. Click Add New
  5. Enter your proxy’s information (not yours)
  6. Define your relationship (e.g., parent, spouse)
  7. Create a passphrase
  8. Required if the proxy will speak with Enrollment Services
  9. Click Email Passphrase to send it to your proxy
  10. Set start and end dates for access
  11. Choose which information the proxy can view
  12. Click Email Authorizations to notify your proxy

You have now completed the steps to authorize proxy access to your student record!

Proxy/Third Party Instructions

Once authorized, the proxy must:

  1. Open the email titled “New Proxy – activate your account”
  2. Click the activation link
  3. Enter the initial password provided
  4. Create a new password (8–15 alphanumeric characters)
  5. Log in using their email as the username
  6. Select the student’s name to view authorized information

Some areas may require selecting a term before viewing content.

Parent/Authorized User - Billing

If you wish to authorize a parent, guardian, or other user to view your online student account information (billing statements) and make payments on your behalf, please follow the WINGS instructions below.

  1. Select Student on the Launchpad
  2. Under Campus Services, click on Student Account Center – View and Pay Bill
  3. Select Authorized Users
  4. Click the Authorized User tab
  5. Enter the Authorized User's e-mail address and select the items you would like your authorized user to see, click on Continue.
  6. Check the I Agree box. Click on Continue. Instructional e-mail will be sent to the authorized user.
  7. Authorized Users can then go to the Enrollment Services Access Your Account page and select View & Pay Bill.

  • Who can set up a Proxy?

    Any active student who has been admitted can set up a Proxy.

  • What is a passphrase?

    It helps verify the identity of the individual calling and requesting information. Be sure to keep the passphrase private between you and your proxy.

  • Can multiple Proxies use the same email address?

    No. Each proxy must have their own proxy account.

  • What offices can disclose authorized information to my Proxy?

    Enrollment Services, the Office of Financial Aid, Bursar, and Registrar.

  • I am a student and want to see a history of authorizations.

    To view your history of authorizations, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open WINGS in your browser
    2. Click on Student Academics
    3. Click on Proxy Management
    4. Select the pencil icon next to the proxy
    5. Click on the History tab for a log of authorizations for the selected Proxy
  • I am a student and want to see a history of communications sent to my Proxy.

    To view your history of communications, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open Wings in your browser
    2. Click on Student Academics
    3. Click on Proxy Management
    4. Select the pencil icon next to the proxy
    5. Click on the Communication tab for a log of communications sent to the selected Proxy
  • Will my Proxy be notified if I change their authorizations?

    No. There is not an automatic e-mail generated when a student changes the authorizations for a proxy. However, you may choose to send a new email notification by clicking on the Email Authorizations icon under the Authorizations tab for the selected Proxy.

  • I am a student and my Proxy forgot their passphrase.

    Wright State University cannot disclose your passphrase to your Proxy. You may choose to notify your Proxy of the existing passphrase or you may create a new passphrase. Note: Only the student may update the passphrase.

    To update or send another email to your Proxy with the passphrase, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open Wings in your browser
    2. Click on Student Academics
    3. Click on Proxy Management
    4. Select the pencil icon next to the proxy
    5. Scroll down to the passphrase field, review the current passphrase, and or update the passphrase
    6. Click on Email Passphrase to send a new email to your Proxy
  • I am a student and would like to remove a Proxy's access.

    To delete a Proxy, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open Wings in your browser
    2. Click on Student Academics
    3. Click on Proxy Management
    4. Select the pencil icon next to the proxy
    5. Scroll down to the start/end date and change the Stop Date to today or an earlier date.

  • What is a proxy?

    A proxy is a third-party person authorized by the student to view their Active Registration, Student Detail Schedule, Final Grades, Holds, Graduation Application, and/or Academic Transcript available in the Student Proxy Access Portal. A proxy may also have the ability to receive verbal financial aid and/or billing information. Proxy access is dependent on the authorizations the student allows for the proxy.

  • What if I forget the passphrase for my proxy account?

    Wright State University cannot disclose the passphrase to the Proxy. The student must either notify the proxy of the passphrase or change the passphrase in their Wings Express account.

  • I’m a proxy, how can I view my student’s financial aid information?

    Proxies do not have access to view the student’s financial aid information in the Student Proxy Access Portal. If the proxy is authorized to receive financial aid information verbally, they can contact Raider Connect or Lake Campus Enrollment Services.

  • I’m a proxy, how can I view my student’s financial aid information?

    Proxies do not have access to view the student’s financial aid information in the Student Proxy Access Portal. If the proxy is authorized to receive financial aid information verbally, they can contact Raider Connect or Lake Campus Enrollment Services.

  • I’m a proxy, can I register or drop my student from their classes?

    Only the student can make changes to their class schedule. The student may authorize a proxy to view their active registration or student detail schedule but the proxy is not authorized to add or drop classes.

  • I’m a proxy, what offices can I speak to about my student’s account?

    Enrollment Services and Lake Campus Enrollment Services can speak to proxies about information authorized by the student.

  • I’m a proxy, how can I view my student’s billing information?

    Proxies do not have access to view the student’s billing information in the Student Proxy Access Portal. If the proxy is authorized to receive billing information verbally, they can contact Raider Connect or Lake Campus Enrollment Services. To have the authorization to view billing information, the student must make the person an authorized user in WINGS Express.
