A grant is a form of financial aid that does not need to be repaid. It is often based on financial need and can be restricted to a select population of students.

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is a federal grant for undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. Student applicants must meet eligibility requirements for federal student aid, such as  Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

For the 2023-24 (Summer 2023–Spring 2024) aid year, students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC), as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), between 0 and 6,656.

Award Maximums per Term*
  • For full-time enrollment (12 or more undergraduate credit hours): $3,698 per semester
  • For 3/4-time enrollment (9 to 11 undergraduate credit hours): $2,773 per semester
  • For half-time enrollment (6 to 8 undergraduate credit hours): $1,849 per semester
  • For less than half-time enrollment (5 or less undergraduate credit hours): $925 per semester
Lifetime Maximum A student can receive no more than 6 years (or 12 semesters or its equivalent) of Federal Pell Grant funds.
Declining Pell Grant Funds If you wish to decline or return all or part of a Federal Pell Grant disbursement that you are otherwise eligible to receive, you must complete and return the Declining Federal Pell Funds Form to RaiderConnect.
Enrollment Requirement Students must be enrolled.
Disbursement Visit the Important Dates page for disbursement dates. Funds are applied directly to the student’s account. If the student’s account is paid in full and financial aid funds remain, the Office of the Bursar will issue the remaining funds to the student in the form of a refund.

*Based upon a 0 EFC for the 2023-24 aid year. Awards depend upon the student's EFC and enrollment status (full-time, 3/4-time, half-time, or less than half-time). A student may not receive Federal Pell Grant funds from more than one school at the same time. As a result, a student who receives a portion of their annual Federal Pell Grant award at another school may not qualify for their entire term maximums at Wright State University.


Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is a federal grant for undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. Student applicants must meet eligibility requirements for federal student aid, such as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. For the 2022-2023 and 2023-24 aid years, students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated as Zero (0), as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must also be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Funds are awarded as available.

How to Apply Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Wright State University's FAFSA priority deadline date.
Award Maximum per Term*
  • For full-time enrollment (12 or more undergraduate credit hours): $400 per semester
  • For 3/4-time enrollment (9 to 11 undergraduate credit hours): $300 per semester
  • For half-time enrollment (6 to 8 undergraduate credit hours): $200 per semester
  • For less than half-time enrollment (5 or less undergraduate credit hours): $100 per semester

Ohio College Opportunity Grant

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG) is a State of Ohio grant for undergraduate students who are Ohio residents and who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. Students must also meet other eligibility requirements based on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) including Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. How to Apply Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by October 1st of the award year.
Award Amount

Award amounts are determined by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
 

NOTE: Students at enrolled in courses at the Lake Campus are not eligible for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG).

Wright State University Need-Based Grant

The Wright State University Need-Based Grant is a Wright State University grant for transfer and continuing undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. Students admitted directly from high school are considered for the Wright Start Scholarship and not eligible for the Wright State University Need-Based Grant.

Student applicants must meet eligibility requirements for federal student aid, such as  Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. For the 2022-23 aid year, students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC), as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), between 2,191 and 10,000 and are not already receiving an Academic Performance Scholarship. Funds are awarded as available.

Award Maximums per Term**
  • For full-time enrollment (12 or more undergraduate credit hours): $550 per semester
  • For 3/4-time enrollment (9 to 11 undergraduate credit hours): $412 per semester
  • For half-time enrollment (6 to 8 undergraduate credit hours): $275 per semester
  • For less than half-time enrollment (5 or less undergraduate credit hours): $137 per semester
