Susan B. Carrafiello, Ph.D., Director

Dr. Susan Carrafiello, associate professor of history, was appointed director of the University Honors Program in 2001. She is responsible for the program's main objectives, emphases, and purposes. As the key advocate for the Honors Program, she recruits Honors faculty, plans faculty teaching workshops, and fosters development of new Honors courses and new program initiatives. She works with college deans and department chairs to monitor departmental Honors options. Faculty who would like to teach Honors courses should contact her well before a proposed Honors course is to be scheduled. Honors students who have any concerns or suggestions about any aspect of the Honors Program are encouraged to contact her for an appointment.

Alex N. Wenning, M.A., Associate Director

Alex Wenning joined the University Honors Program in January 2008. He holds responsibility for curriculum development, and he provides overall leadership for student development, including the implementation of all phases of enrollment management and student services for Honors students. Wenning manages the Honors scholarship programs for incoming, continuing, and transfer students, and he administers the WSU Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships Resource Center. He is the Scholarships & Awards Officer for the WSU Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and he has previously served as President of the Mid-East Honors Association. Wenning earned a Bachelor of Arts in English summa cum laude from Wright State (University Honors Scholar) and a Master of Arts in English from Ball State University.

Christine M. Reedy, M.A., Assistant Director

Christine Reedy joined the University Honors Program in June 2013. She mainly works with the first- and second-year Honors students as an advisor, as well as supporting other functions in the Honors Program.  A former Wright State Honors student, Reedy earned her B.A. in English and M.A. in Literature at the university. She has previous work experience in teaching, writing, and publishing. Reedy has an interest in social media and good books. She also enjoys spending her free time with her family and dogs.

Arvind Elangovan, Ph.D., Faculty-in-Residence

Arvind Elangovan is the Honors Program’s Faculty-in-Residence. His role is unique to the Honors Community and exists to support the academic goals of its residents. Dr. Elangovan enjoys interacting with students outside of the classroom and has experience implementing and participating in study abroad programs, student outings, and study groups.  His research and teaching interests include history and political science, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning. Dr. Elangovan earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in Bangalore and New Delhi, India, and a doctorate from the University of Chicago. He is an assistant professor of Asian history in the Wright State University Department of History.

Jane Koester, Administrative Support Coordinator


A Wright State employee since 2011, Jane Koester joined the University Honors Program in February, 2014. Her three-year experience at WSU has been supporting the faculty and staff with leadership and career development training through the Office of Organizational Development and Learning.

Jennifer is a sophomore pre-med biology major from Vandalia, Ohio, who wants to become a pediatrician. She enjoys softball and bowling, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.
