WSU Continuing Undergraduate Student Scholarships

Scholarship applications require Adobe Reader, which you can download at no cost from http://get.adobe.com/reader.

For additional information for continuing students, visit our WSU Student page.

NOTE: The 2010-2011 application will be available in January 2010.

2009-2010 Deadline Date: March 1, 2009

General Information

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis within colleges to academically talented students who complete a WSU Continuing Student Scholarship Application. Students may apply for more than one scholarship through the one application if they meet the criteria and submit all required paperwork. Unless stated to the contrary in the scholarship descriptions, recipients must be registered as full-time students in order to use the scholarship monies to pay their fees. The majority of these scholarships are merit based. If documented need is listed as required, applicants should file the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the February 15, 2009 priority deadline date.

How to Apply

1. Scholarships are awarded on an "as funds are available basis."

2. Due to limited scholarship funds, most committees do not give serious consideration to students who have earned fewer than 45 credit hours at Wright State by the end of Fall Quarter 2008.

3. To qualify as a Continuing Undergraduate Student you must have earned hours and a "competitive" cumulative GPA, both earned at Wright State University.

4. Be sure your application is received or postmarked on or before March 1, 2009.

5. Be sure to check the special scholarship(s) for which you are eligible to compete for, found in the upper right-hand corner of the scholarship application. If a scholarship is not listed as "special," it means that all eligible applications are considered.

6. A typed essay stating your interest, future goals, and background experiences is required of all applicants. This essay must be two pages, double-spaced, using a 12 point font, and one inch margins.

7. A clearly typed (one page) list of extra-curricular activities, community service, offices held, and awards or honors received is required of all applicants. Only include information relevant during your post secondary studies. This list will be reviewed carefully by the scholarship committee(s). Be sure to include details of involvement and corresponding dates. If no post secondary activities are applicable, provide a typed explanation for the committee to review.

8. One confidential recommendation letter is required. Request this letter from an instructor or professor who has knowledge of your academic work and ability. Refer to the Recommendation Instructions Form.

9. Applicants can check WINGS Express to see what application forms have been received in the Office of Financial Aid and/or which forms are still required.

10. College Scholarship award decisions are made by June 1.

Description of University Scholarships for Continuing Students

Applicants compete for scholarships with other applicants who are enrolled in the same college. Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of faculty members from their college. Scholarships are for one year and range from $300 to $9,000.

In addition to the university scholarships listed below, some departments or divisions may offer other scholarships to continuing students. Check with the chair in your academic department.
