Michael Hadley, JD

Michael Hadley practices in the area of employee benefits, advising clients on the full range of tax, ERISA, and other laws affecting benefit plans. Hadley is a frequent speaker and author on the benefits and tax developments coming out of Washington, DC. He is a former associate counsel for pension regulation at the Investment Company Institute (ICI). His responsibilities included advocating for ICI’s membership before Congress, the Department of Labor, the Department of the Treasury, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as assisting members and staff in understanding tax and ERISA rules.

Prior to joining ICI, Hadley was with the law firm Covington & Burling, LLP. He received his JD from the University of Virginia, where he was notes editor of the Virginia Law Review and elected to the Order of the Coif. Hadley received his B.A., cum laude, from the College of William and Mary. He serves on Davis & Harman, LLP’s management committee, and, in 2018, was appointed the firm’s managing partner.
