Scholarships for First-Year Students
Wright State University offers several scholarships for first year students including Academic Performance Scholarships and Competitive Honors Scholarships. For a complete list of first-year scholarships visit the Financial Aid website. On this page you will find the eligiblity criteria and deadlines for Academic Performance Scholarships and Competive Honors Scholarships.

Transfer students and returning students should visit the Financial Aid website for available scholarships.

Academic Performance Scholarships
Academic Performance Scholarships are awarded to students based on their high school academic record. Students must apply for admission by February 15 to be eligible for these scholarships. (Complete eligibility criteria and information can be found at the Financial Aid website.)
Academic Performance Scholarships include:

Wright State University National Scholarship
Awarded to students who are National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists and designate WSU as their university of first choice.
Scholarship Value: in-state tuition, room/board, and books; renewable for four years.

The Wright State University Semifinalist Scholarship
Awarded to students who were named a semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. (Documentation of this status must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.)
Scholarship Value: in-state tuition; renewable for four years.

The Wright State University Commended Scholarship
Awarded to students who were named a Commended Scholar by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. (Documentation of this status must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.)
Scholarship Value: in-state tuition; renewable for four years.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship
Awarded to students who are ranked first or second by the high school at the time of admission. The scholarship value varies based on composite ACT or SAT score.
Students with an ACT of 30 composite or an SAT of 1340 critical reading and math only or higher will receive full in-state tuition.
Students with an ACT of 26-29 composite or an SAT of 1180-1339critical reading and math only will receive $4,200.
Students with an ACT of 25 composite or an SAT of 1179 critical reading and math only or lower will receive $3,200.
This scholarship is renewable for four years.

Wright State Scholar
Awarded to students who meet two of the three following criteria:
- 3.75 cumulative GPA
- Rank in top 10% of graduating class
- 29 ACT composite or 1300 critical reading and math only SAT score
Scholarship Value: $2,500; renewable for four years.

Green and Gold Scholar
Awarded to students who meet two of the three following criteria:
- 3.50 cumulative GPA
- Rank in top 10% of graduating class
- 27 composite ACT or 1220 SAT critical reading and math only score
Scholarship Value: $2,000; renewable for four years.

Raider Scholar
Awarded to students who meet two of the three following criteria:
- 3.25 cumulative GPA - rank in top 10% of graduating class
- 25 composite ACT or 1140 SAT critical reading and math only score
Scholarship Value: $1,500; renewable for four years.

Academic Performance Scholarships for underrepresented student populations
Students must apply for admission by February 15 and be a member of an underrepresented ethnic group (African American, Asian or Pacific Islander, Hispanic or American Indian/Alaskan Native) to be eligible.


Wright State University National Scholarship
Awarded to students who are National Achievement Scholarship Program Finalists and designated WSU as their university of first choice.
Scholarship Value: in-state tuition, room/board, and books; renewable for four years.

Wright State University Semifinalist Scholarship
Awarded to students who were named a semifinalist by the National Achievement Scholarship Corporation. (Documentation of this status must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.)
Scholarship Value: in-state tuition; renewable for four years.

Wright State University Commended Scholarship

Paul Laurence Dunbar Scholarship
Awarded to students who meet two of the following three criteria:
- 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Rank in top 20% of graduating class
- 20 composite ACT of 980 SAT critical reading and math only score
Scholarship Value: $2,500; renewable for four years.



Competitive Honors/Trustees Scholarships
To apply for the highly competitive Honors or Trustees Scholarship, students must complete the Admission Application and the Competitive Honors/Trustees Scholarship Application form, and submit a typed one to two page essay, a typed list of extracurricular activities, two recommendation letters from teachers and/or counselors, transcripts of PSEO courses (if applicable) and a high school academic transcript. All items must be postmarked by January 15 to be considered.


Honors Scholarship
May be awarded to students who meet two of the following criteria:
- 3.25 GPA
- Rank in top 10% of graduating class
- ACT/SAT at 90th percentile or above (approximately ACT Composite 27/ SATcritical reading and math only 1300)
Scholarship Value: between $2,500 and $5,000 per year; renewable for four years.

Trustees Scholarship
May be awarded to students who meet two of the following criteria:
- 3.4 GPA
- Rank in top 5% of graduating class
- ACT/SAT at 90th percentile or above (approximately ACT 27/ SAT critical reading and math only 1300)
Scholarship value: in-state tuition, room/board and books; renewable for four years.

There are many scholarships available from Wright State University that are specific to a student's area of interest. ROTC, College of Liberal Arts, Raj Soin College of Business, College of Engineering and Computer Science and others also offer scholarships.
