
Danielle Rolfes ('97 B.S. Accountancy; University Honors Scholar) was honored as the 2009 Honors Distinguished Alumni at the June 11 graduation reception in the Student Union.
Danielle Rolfes is a partner at Ivins, Phillips & Barker in Washington, D.C., and has been with the firm since 2002. Her practice focuses on general corporate income taxation, with an emphasis on international and tax accounting issues. She writes and lectures frequently in her field and has participated on expert panels hosted by the American Bar Association, the D.C. Bar, the Federal Bar Association, and BNA Tax Management. Rolfes, a certified public accountant, is a gold medal winner for achieving the highest score on the CPA exam in the State of Ohio.
From 1997 to 1999, Rolfes was an accountant at Procter & Gamble, where she worked full-time on the implementation of the cost accounting modules of SAP, an enterprise-wide software system.
She graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 2002 and earned her LL.M. in Taxation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2005. Congratulations, Danielle!

Following graduation, Nicole Berry (B.S.B. '09 Management; GSHS) spent six months support raising, then committed to a two-year mission term with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, which ends in May 2012. Nicole hopes to head into the marketplace in the field of project management. She currently resides in Plainfield, IN, where she works in the Great Lakes regional office for Chi Alpha. Photo at left. Amanda Hardy Brookhuis (B.A. '05 International Studies; UHS) has been married to a bankruptcy attorney for six years. They recently moved to Atlanta, GA, where she is attending the Georgia State University College of Law. She hopes to focus her career on international law and human rights. (R11)
In August 2011, Elisabeth Cary (B.A. '10 English/Language Arts Education; UHS) will begin teaching 9th-grade English at North Gaston High School in Dallas, NC. (R11)

Allison Frey (B.A. '10 Religion and International Studies; UHS) is in her final year of a M.A. in South Asian Religious Studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia, focusing on Indian classical dance and religion. She also personally studies and performs a dance form called Odissi, which she first was exposed to while on a Wright State study abroad program in India. Allison was the recipient of the 2010 Green Chalk Award for Excellence as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Missouri. She will be presenting a paper on the globalization of Indian classical dance at a conference on Religion in Society in Vancouver, B.C. in 2012. Allison is expanding her dance studies and is considering a M.A. program in Dance Therapy. (F11)

Bryan Jacobs, 2d LT, USAF, (B.S. '08 Biological Sciences; UHS) just finished two weeks of a medical mission in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, got married, and finished Commissioned Officer Training for the Air Force, earning the top graduate position in his class. Bryan is a 2014 Doctorate of Medicine candidate in WSU's Boonshoft School of Medicine. Photos below. (R11)

Mary Krumwiede (B.A. '09 International Studies/French; UHS) travelled to Switzerland after graduation as a non-degree graduate student participating in WSU's UCIE Ambassador Program. The group's mission was to establish a study abroad program for students with disabilities. In Fall 2010 she began a M.A. program in International Peace and Conflict Resolution at Arcadia University, where she participated in field studies that examined the religious and political tensions in Northern Ireland and indigenous water rights in Costa Rica. In Summer 2011 she worked as an intern for the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management. Mary is beginning the second year of her M.A. program at Arcadia and plans to graduate in May 2012. Jennifer Monahan (B.S. '08 Chemistry; DHS) is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Northeastern University in Boston, performing research in the Laboratory for Spectral Diagnosis where they focus on non-invasive spectroscopic techniques and non-supervised data analysis methods to work towards diagnosing diseases and cancers. Jen received an IGERT (Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) nanomedicine fellowship for her proposed dissertation topic involving functionalized gold nanoparticles for drug delivery using Raman micro-spectroscopy. Christal Morita-Keating, DVM (B.S. '07 Psychology, DHS) graduated from the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2011 with a DVM degree. She has accepted an associate veterinarian position at Wheelersburg Animal Hospital in Portsmouth, OH. In December 2009, Christal and Thomas Jacob Keating (B.S.B. Michelle Novak (B.S. '02 Finance; GSHS) has recently accepted the position of Executive Director at Ihsan, a local non-profit community service organization that is guided by Islamic principles. Michelle was first introduced to Islam while working on her undergraduate degree and later became a Muslim while a graduate student in International and Comparative Politics. She took a break from her graduate studies to focus on the study of Islam while also homeschooling her children. She has resumed her work toward a Masters degree in International and Comparative Politics, as well as Public Administration at WSU. Michelle is an active volunteer, sharing her experience with the Muslim community by supporting sports and youth programs, women's groups, education, and social service projects. She is married to Isa Ar-Razi, and they have four children. Photo at right. (R11)
Lisa (Pasquinelli) Rickey (B.A. '05 History/Latin; UHS) graduated in May 2011 with a Master of Library Science degree from Wayne State University School of Library & Information Science (Detroit, MI). She has been the archivist at the Dayton Metro Library since 2008. (R11)

Amanda Schrand (B.S. '99 Biological Sciences; GSHS) is relocating from Wright Patterson Air Force Base to Eglin AFB (Florida) in September. She will still be working as a civilian with the Air Force Research Laboratory but with a different group (AFRL/RWGII), examining bio-inspired materials. Photo at right. (R11)

Karen Seiger (B.A. '88 Political Science; UHS) and her husband, James, have lived in New York City since 2000. She founded a marketing firm, Sirene MediaWorks, providing services in strategic communications, social media and loyalty marketing, and sustainability marketing for green businesses. Sirene works with clients across the country to help them grow their businesses through effective marketing. Karen also wrote and did the photography for her recent book, Markets of New York City: A Guide to the Best Artisan, Farmer, Food & Flea Markets (Little Bookroom 2010). She is a volunteer tour guide of the World Trade Center site with the 9/11 Families Association WTC Tribute Center. Photo at left. (R11)
After graduating from WSU, Justin Williams (B.Mus. '06 Music Education; UHS) pursued his Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies at United Theological Seminary (UTS). While in seminary, Justin worked several part time jobs. In addition to being the United Methodist Campus Minister at Wright State, he served as a Minister of Music and Christian Education, the Music Coordinator at UTS, and a Research and Teaching Assistant at UTS. In August 2010, he became the pastor of Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton, OH. In June 2011, he was commissioned as a Provisional Elder in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Photo below. (R11)
