The meeting was called to order by Chris Wydman, USAC Chair at 8:35
a.m.
I. Welcome by Chris Wydman and Introductions by Members
II. Approval of Minutes for October 9, 2008.
The minutes were approved as presented.
III. Committee Reports
1. Athletic Council - Mary Kenton, John Sheidler - There will
soon be a national
search for the new men's soccer coach. This
Saturday, anyone wearing WSU gear to the men's basketball game gets
in for free. Efforts are being made to make athletics events
family-friendly. Athletic Director Bob Grant welcomes any new ideas and suggestions
from the WSU community. Will
not meet again until January 30th.
2. Diversity Advocacy Council - Helen Kay Dean -

3. Parking Services - Adam Horseman -

4. President's Award for Excellence - Kevin Knapp, Chris Wydman -
No meetings since October.
5. Sustainability - Jason Kohlhepp - No meetings since October.
6. University Dining Services - Lisa Bleeke -

7. University Staff Council - Barb Bullock, Mary Healea, Rob Boley, Curt
Pederson, Chris Wydman - Staff Council met on September 24th. Topics of
discussion are included below.
8. Wellness and Recreation - Jason Kohlhepp - The committee met
Wednesday, October 12th. They discussed marketing for the various
health opportunities available on campus. In-door walking program
will be starting again soon. Winter quarter blood drive will be
Wednesday, January 14th.USAC will consider sponsoring the Health
Break Luncheons.
9. WSU Bookstore - Mary Healea -

IV. Other Business
1. Healthcare Update - Employees now have access to the new
High Deductible Health Plan with Health Savings Account.
Meetings
have been scheduled to explain the differences in the various
options, featuring representatives from WSU Human Resources, Anthem,
Fifth Third Bank, and Advanced Benefit Planning. Human Resources
will soon be posting additional information online, including FAQ's
and a slideshow.
2. Short-Term Disability - This benefit is now available to all
full-time (75% or higher) employees. The deadline for enrollment is
November 21st, and forms are available on the
Human Resources website.
3. Listservs - In the near future, the Faculty, Staff, and
Announce listservs may be merged into one discussion
listserv. A new Events listserv will also likely be created for official
announcements from groups such as USAC, CSAC, Deans, etc.
4. Staff Development Day - The event will be held on Tuesday,
December 2nd. Possible topics may include: estate planning,
retirement benefits, dealing with difficult people, business
etiquette, dressing for success, and change management. Chris will
send out a save-the-date email.
5. Staff Pioneers Project - The new plaque will be unveiled on
April 21st in the Pathfinder Lounge in the Student Union. So far, a
list has been created of approximately 180 staff from the
University's earliest days. The list will be circulated amongst
current staff and retirees for any additional names.
6. 2nd Mile Group - This is an ad-hoc group that has been meeting
for three years on Thursdays over lunch. The group has conducted
focus groups with students to identify and resolve issues on
campus. The group meets in 010 Student Union at noon on Thursdays,
and anyone is welcome. This year, a major focus is on services for transfer
students.
7. Speedway Gas Cards - Employees of Dayton Chamber of
Commerce member organizations are eligible for Speedway gas cards
that provide 6 cents off per gallon. At this point, WSU will likely
not be participating, but USAC will continue to pursue this issue with Staff Council.
8. USAC Water Bottles - We will not be able to sell the water
bottles at basketball games, due to a conflict with the licensing
agreement. The bottles will soon be promoted via the USAC website
and marketed to departments as promotional items.
V. Additional Topics
1. Winter Fest - This event may be discussed at the next meeting.
2. Staff Survey Communications - An article in an upcoming
Dialogue will discuss survey outcomes, as well as the role USAC and CSAC
played in implementing the survey.
3. Lake Campus Rep - Staff Council will hopefully soon have a
representative from Lake Campus.
VI. Adjournment and Next Meeting
The meeting was adjourned by Chris Wydman, USAC Chair, at
10:34 a.m. The next meeting is in 339 Fawcett on Thursday, December
11, 2008 @ 8:30.
