History and Memory: World War I in British Culture
History and Memory: World War I in British Culture, is a 4-week
National Endowment for the Humanities seminar for 15 K-12 teachers.
The seminar will run from July 2-July 28, 2006, and will be taught by
Dr. Barry Milligan, English, and Dr. Carol Engelhardt, History.
Seminar participants will be in London for two weeks, visiting collections in the Imperial War Museum, National Army Museum and the British Library,
and then touring battlefields and memorials on the Western Front (France and Belgium) for a week, returning to London for the final week. Participants will read primary and secondary sources --
poetry, memoir, and fiction -- throughout the seminar, and complete a final project based on some section of the course or a personal response to the literature and the memorials.
