Dr. Marlese Durr is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Durr holds a B.S. in Liberal Studies from the University of Detroit and SUNY-Albany, an M.A. in African and Afro-American Studies from SUNY-Albany, an M.A. in Sociology from SUNY-Albany, and a Ph.D in Sociology from SUNY-Albany. Before coming to Wright State, she was associated with Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Professor Durr Specializes in Work and Occupations, Race and Labor Markets, and African American Women. She has published articles on topics such as: Racial Submarkets for Employment, Social Cost and Entrepreneurship, Politics of Race, and Needs of Urban Entrepreneurs. Professor Durr is developing a Special Issue of Gender & Society, with co-author Shirley A. Hill. Their book will be entitled: African American Women: Gender Relations, Work, and The Political Economy in The Twenty-First Century. Dr. Durr has held leadership positions with the Association of Black Sociologists, the American Sociological Association, the National Association of Black Business and Professional Women, the Occupations & Work Section Graduate Committee, the Eastern Sociological Society Minorities Committee, the Sociologists for Women in Society, the Eastern Sociological Society, and Gender & Society. Professor Durr's civic and academic contributions have enriched her community, her department, her college, and the university. She has served as Senate Representative of the College of Liberal Arts, Co-Chair of the President's Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Committee, and as a member of Wright State University's Sweet Flavor of Dayton Committe and the WSU Volunteers Committee. Professor Durr has chaired the Sociology Department's Curriculum Committee, has been a member of the Faculty Affairs, Personnel, Curriculum, and Faculty Recruitment Committees, and has also served as a faculty member of the Master of Humanities Program.
