Paul Laurence Dunbar Library
Paul
Laurence Dunbar Library is a giant triangular building with a four-floor atrium
and skylights. Completed in 1973 and dedicated in 1992, the library is named
in honor of the Dayton native and famed African-American poet who died in 1906.
The only black student enrolled at Central High School, Dunbar was a classmate
of Orville Wright. Today, the Dunbar Library and Fordham Health Sciences Library
are linked through the OhioLINK system to academic libraries throughout the state
through the Internet and a wide range of databases for electronic research throughout
the world. The Archives and Special Collections Department houses an almost complete
set of autographed first editions of Dunbar's poetry and the world's largest
collection of Wright brothers photos and memorabilia, as well as an African American
Collection and sections on early aviation history and children's literature.
The Library Annex was completed in 1988 and houses Computing and Telecommunication
Services and the Center for Teaching and Learning. Visit Wright
State University Libraries home page.
