Placement Test Info

Placement tests

A critical first step in developing your college program of study is to determine your appropriate first mathematics and English composition courses. It is important to be able to register for a class at your current skill level. Enrolling in a class that is too advanced may put you at an academic disadvantage. Likewise, taking a class on a subject you already have mastered may cause you to take additional courses that may not be required. Wright State uses a combination of ACT or SAT test scores and placement examinations to determine your initial placement in mathematics and English composition.

Do not delay: You will confirm your Fall Semester classes during Orientation with an academic advisor. Your placement test results must be on file in order to do so.

You will be able to submit changes to your schedule the day of Orientation.

English

The table below summarizes the Wright State placement policy for English Composition and whether or not you need to take the test. If you do need to take the test we recommend that you take the English placement assessment as soon as possible; however, the assessment MUST be completed at least 14 days before your scheduled Orientation session.  If you are an admitted student before May 1 you will need to complete it no later than May 1. If not, you will be assessed a $25 fee on your student account.  If you are an admitted student after May 1 please allow 3 days prior to attending your Orientation session.

ACT English score of 22 or
below (SAT Writing score of 529 or below OR SAT Critical Reading score of 529 or below)

Testing is now available and must be completed no later than 14 days before your scheduled Orientation session.
