Placement Testing and Advising

During each registration period, placement testing in English and mathematics is available to students new to the university. Results of these tests help identify present skill levels and aid in selecting appropriate courses for initial enrollment.

The following guidelines have been developed:

  1. English and math placement is determined first by ACT or SAT score and then, if needed, a placement test. For more information, please refer to University College Placement information.
  2. If the placement test results indicate the student needs developmental course work, certain courses must be completed before registering for college level classes. The academic advisor will aid the student in registering for the appropriate classes.

First-time or returning Lake Campus students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to review their options and then complete any necessary placement tests.
