The text for the course is Strengths Based Leadership Great Leaders, Teams, and Why People Follow by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie.  The students take the instrument in the book as part of the class and relate it to their leadership experiences throughout the semester.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students successfully completing this course should be able to:

  • Identify one’s own strengths and successful ways to utilize them to effectively lead others;
  • Learn how to effectively communicate with diverse communities on behalf of themselves, their organization, or their project;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of civic responsibility and cultural competence when working with others.
  • Define the personal and social responsibilities inherent in any formal or informal leadership position;
