USAC:  The purpose of the Unclassified Staff Advisory Council(USAC) is to represent its members to the university by: promoting their general welfare; advocating for unclassified staff through active participation in university governance structure; reviewing, initiating and making recommendation on relevant university policies and procedures; encouraging and facilitating communication among members; and encouraging professional development opportunities. One of the prime responsibilities of this council is to serve the educational community by creating and maintaining an environment conducive to the teaching, learning, research, and service functions of higher education. The recommendations of the council are submitted to the university president.

New Business

  • Introduction
    • Chair covered ‘Information for New USAC Members’ and Org Chart
  • Call for Committee Members
    • Chair discussed committees and asked members and non-members to send committee requests to Secretary
  • OD&L
    • Closed 6/30/2014
    • Planning for HR to take over staff development activities
    • More information to come soon
    • Concerns about displaced employees
    • Concerns about education series
  • Staff Development Day
    • USAC asked to solicit raffle gifts – need by end of July
    • Staff Development Day is August 7th
    • Next Meeting Tues 7/15/2014 at 3:30pm in 163 Millet Hall
    • Meetings held weekly
  • We Serve U – Indiana School
    • Call for department items – quantities of 30
    • Need items by 8/30
  • Abolishment Letters
    • These items should be addressed in the letter
      • What happens if I do not take position offered?  Exempt from unemployment?
      • Could they add something along the lines of “…here are your other options…?” 
      • Maybe remove the Wellness information assuming someone will need counseling?
    • Chair to request Unclassified Abolishment Letter
  • Xerox Updates – Jamie & Marty
    • 11 or 12 site assessments complete
    • Pilot groups: Rike Hall, Allyn Hall, and University Hall – Xerox is now giving suggestions to business managers who take the information back to explain to staff and faculty.  Within next month they will order devices for these three buildings.
    • Justification forms available  if you want to dispute the removal of specific equipment
    • Expecting business managers to enforce - NO personal printing devices
    • Anything less than 2 years = department keeps them
    • If taken away, equipment is disposed of through ESPM and department gets revenue from any sales
    • Sharing departments – they will have to pay and split paper costs
    • Paper ordered through Guy Brown instead of printing services
    • Committee = evaluates Justification Forms to keep personal printers
    • PAWS – Production orders to continue through PAWS until end of August
    • End of August/ Beginning of September there will be a new ordering system with Xerox = no more PAWS

Old Business

  • Graduation
    • Decision submitted was that we don’t want to be recognized or in a roped off area but would like the option to attend
    • There has been discussion of splitting graduation by specific degrees but no discussion of ticketing graduation again

        • No committee meeting recently
        • Rumblings that classified equity evaluation was inaccurate because the information used was 3 to 5 years old and the schools used are now in evaluation or have adjusted
        • Warned to watch out for job reclassification issues as the Unclassified evaluation begins
        • Has been discussion of moving from Monthly to Bi-Weekly pay
