University Center for International Education (UCIE) Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
Wright State University’s UCIE Undergraduate Merit Scholarship Program is designed to recognize academically outstanding international first-year and transfer students for the 2023-2024 and 2024-25 academic years. Scholarships are renewable and range in value from $6,000 to $10,000. Eligible students who continue to meet certain criteria can receive this scholarship for a total of 8 semesters of full-time undergraduate study.
You will be considered for the UCIE Undergraduate Merit scholarship upon admission into the university, no scholarship application is needed. Funds are offered as available, so apply today! For students attending directly from high school, the scholarship is based on your high school GPA. If you are transferring from another institution the GPA is based on your previous undergraduate GPA.

Scholarship Details
- Students may receive only one institutional Academic Performance/Merit Scholarship
- No scholarship application is needed
- Students must be enrolled full time
- Must be an international student on a F1 visa
- Must be charged non-resident tuition surcharge
- The scholarship is divided evenly between the Fall and Spring Semesters
- Renewable contingent on maintaining a 2.5 GPA and earning a total of 24 credit hours during the Fall and Spring Semesters

Vietnam Academic Merit Scholarship
The Vietnam Academic Merit Scholarship is designed to award and support Vietnamese undergraduate international students first enrolling Fall 2024. Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are renewable at $12,000 an academic year. Eligible students who continue to meet certain criteria can receive this scholarship for a total of 8 semesters of full-time undergraduate study.

#YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship
Through the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship, Wright State University recognizes international students who demonstrate a vision for enhancing intercultural understanding. In Fall 2024, we will select two first-year students to receive a renewable scholarship of $10,000 per year. To be considered for the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship, you must be a first-year international applicant applying from abroad who intends to live on-campus. As an international applicant, you must have attended or have graduated from a secondary school outside of the U.S. and demonstrated interest and personal initiative in activities involving intercultural learning and exchange. This scholarship is divided evenly between fall and spring semesters for a total of 8 semesters of full-time undergraduate study as long as you continue to meet certain criteria. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2024, so apply today!
How to Apply
- First, you must apply and be accepted into Wright State University as a first-year international applicant.

Undergraduate International Alumni Scholarship
A $10,000 annual scholarship for full-time enrollment will be awarded for F-1 and J-1 international students who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at Wright State and would like to enroll for a second degree. Students will need to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of admission to be eligible. The scholarship is renewable for 8 semesters so long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.
Scholarship Details
- Must be an international student on an F1 or J1 visa.
- Must be charged a non-resident tuition surcharge.
- Students may receive only one merit scholarship or tuition discount
- Students must be enrolled full-time.
- The annual scholarship amount is divided evenly between Fall and Spring Semesters. If you are a continuing student attending full time in the summer, complete the Summer Scholarship Request Form.
- Funds are awarded as available, so apply for admission early.
- Renewable contingent on maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the academic year.
- It can be used for undergraduate non-resident tuition only.
Scholarship Appeal
Grades are reviewed at the end of the spring semester for students who have attempted 24 credit hours. Students who have less than a 2.5 cumulative GPA and earned less than 24 hours each year can appeal to continue to receive their scholarship.
How do I appeal and what should my scholarship written statements include?
You must submit a Scholarship Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Form to appeal. The appeal will ask for two written statements. The written statements should include:
- A statement that explains the circumstance or reason(s) you were unable to earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- A statement that explains what has changed that will now enable you to meet scholarship requirements.
- Documentation that supports the written statement(s). A statement of support such as a letter from an academic advisor must be signed by the person providing the support and must be printed on company letterhead or from their WSU email address.
- For “mitigating” circumstances (e.g., illness, injury, bereavement, etc.) appropriate documentation may include a statement of support from a physician, counselor or clergy; court documents, obituaries, etc.
- For “non-mitigating” circumstances (e.g., adjusting to a new academic environment, re-acclimating into higher education, etc.) appropriate documentation may include a statement of support from an academic advisor, faculty member, or Immigration Advisor, etc.
How will I be notified of the appeal decision?
You will be notified of the results via your Wright State email.
What happens if my appeal is approved?
If your appeal is approved, you will need to earn a 2.5 GPA and 12 credit hours for the term in order to receive your scholarship for future terms. You will need to have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and earn 24 hours annually by the end of the next spring semester.
