Important Security Reminder: Phishing

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

CaTS has noticed an increase in the number of phishing attempts at the beginning of Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Below is information to help keep your Wright State accounts secure:

What are phishing scams?

  • Phishing scams are emails designed to trick you into sending an unknown third party your account information or other personal or financial information.
  • These emails may look like they’re coming from Wright State, CaTS, your bank or credit card issuer, or any other institution you do business with.
  • The links in phishing emails will often take you to a web page that mimics our login page; in such cases, go directly to the web page by typing in the URL such as wings.wright.edu rather than trusting the link.

How can you avoid phishing scams?

  • Remember that CaTS, WSU, and other reputable businesses WILL NEVER ask you for any personal information, such as your username and password, via email.
  • Never respond to a suspicious email or click links in those emails.
  • Don’t give out your personal information to anyone via email.
  • Don’t download attachments from an email unless you trust the sender.

If you receive an email and are unsure if the message is a scam, feel free to contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827. We can help you determine whether the email you received is real or not.

Upcoming System Maintenance and Upgrades

Tuesday, June 26, 2018

Over the next few days, both Panopto Cloud and the Wright State voicemail system will experience outages due to maintenance or upgrades.
See below for details.

For questions regarding these maintenance items, contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, June 9, 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.

Panopto Cloud customers will be upgraded to Panopto 5.7. This upgrade will require downtime:

  • Sites will be updated from 7:00pm to 11:00pm EDT.
  • We expect up to 4 hours of downtime.

During the time your site is offline, you will not be able to access recordings on your server, and any attempts to upload from clients will result in a "Server unable to connect" message.

For more information on this outage: visit https://www.wright.edu/information-technology/blog/article/panopto-cloud-upgrade

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Monday, June 11, 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.

CaTS will be conducting maintenance on the campus voicemail system. During this time, users will not be able to access or leave voicemails.

Banner 9 Admin Updates

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

On Monday, May 14th, Banner 9 Admin was switched to Ellucian's default blue colors on the Banner 9 pages.

The Application Navigator (Home) page will remain Wright State themed, so the Main menu, Search, Recently Opened, etc. options will still reflect Wright State green and gold.

Student Wireless Survey Results

Monday, April 9, 2018

Recently, CaTS sent a survey to all Wright State students about wireless connectivity on both Dayton and Lake campuses. We are continuously looking for ways to improve our services, and your feedback is crucial in helping us determine which steps to take next.

Survey Statistics

  • Surveys Completed: 834
  • Overall Satisfaction Rate of Wireless Connectivity: 68.62%

Common Themes

  • Theme: Wireless speed is too slow
Action Taken: CaTS is exploring the possibility of adding additional access points in areas that have known issues.
  • Theme: Academic buildings with the highest foot traffic experience the most connectivity issues (i.e. Student Union, Dunbar Library, Student Success Center, Millett Hall, and Rike Hall)
Action Taken: CaTS has begun to remove rogue access points connected to the Wright State network to improve wireless in all academic buildings. Dunbar Library is already complete, and you should now be seeing improvements in that area.
  • Theme: It is difficult to connect and stay connected in hallways and tunnels
Action Taken: CaTS is performing a trial beta wireless test in the tunnels between Fawcett and Medical Sciences. The test will then be expanded to other areas around campus as connectivity begins to improve.

Thank you to all who took the time to participate in this survey.
