Join us this year for some exciting presentations, specifically tailored to address the interests of residential and commuter parents, families, and students! Dan Abrahamowicz, Ph.D., vice president for student affairs, will be your host for this event. There will also be some great raffle prizes given away at this event.

First, Dan Abrahamowicz will share information about exciting activities in the Division of Student Affairs, the Semester Transition, and information from a global perspective that impacts Wright State students and their families. Next, we’ve invited two dynamic speakers to our event that we’re sure you’ll enjoy.

Marjorie Savage is the parent program director at the University of Minnesota, serving as the liaison between the university and the parents of its 29,000 undergraduates.

Savage has done research on the growth and development of parent services in higher education, and she routinely conducts assessments of her own program in order to measure the success of services and to better understand the concerns of college students and their parents.

She has done consulting for colleges and universities both nationally and internationally, and is a frequent speaker on the topic of college-parent relations. She has recently been writing and presenting on the generational transition of college parents from a population of all Baby Boomers to a mix of Boomers and GenXers.

Savage has written numerous articles on college parenting and is the author of You're on Your Own (But I'm Here If You Need Me): Mentoring Your Child During the College Years. She also co-authored with Katherine Wartman the ASHE monograph, Parental Involvement in Higher Education: Understanding the Relationship Among Students, Parents, and the Institution

Brittany M. Steele is a 2009 graduate of Wright State University and was the recipient of the Wright State University Distinguished Senior Leader Award. Steele was selected for this award because she exemplified the high caliber of leadership Wright State students bring to the university and beyond. She is also a 2012 graduate of Capital University Law School and is currently employed at the Office of the Ohio Attorney General in Columbus, Ohio.
