Cameos of Caring

Shannon Sears - Fort Hamilton Hospital

Recognition Year:
2017

Shannon Sears is a role model for the nursing profession.
Her positive attitude sets the tone for the day for both her patients and her peers. Shannon is a team player and always keeps the patients in the forefront of all she does. She exemplifies “called to care.” When caring for her patients, she makes sure every interaction is a meaningful one. Other team members comment that she makes her patients feel like they are her only one. She exudes a presence of healing. Shannon is a mentor for new nurses and new hires. Her calling to care continues outside the hospital and into the community. She works with Starfire, a group that educates young people with disabilities on various health topics; she also mentors children with autism, ADD, and Asperger’s through Summit Academy. When asked about her community work, she responded, “I don’t keep track of it; I just help as much as I can.” Her peers at Fort Hamilton Hospital say, “Shannon always has a smile on her face, positive attitude, and clearly has a passion for helping others heal.”
