Cameos of Caring

Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center—Karen Moses

Recognition Year:
2014

Karen Moses has been a Registered Nurse for 38 years and has worked for seven of those years as a staff nurse at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She is known as the “nurse to go to” with questions regarding rehabilitation and restorative care. As the charge nurse in the rehabilitation unit, she is truly the “nurse who makes a difference” in the overall care of veterans. Each day, she arrives to work early to visit every veteran on the unit, even if those patients are not assigned to her. The veterans have verbalized their appreciation of her interaction with them and the trust they place in her. Karen’s advocacy, action, and time commitment to her patients are vital to recovery. She is thanked often by her colleagues, management, veterans, family members, and other hospital services. She is a member of the Safe Patient Handling committee. Karen received her AAS in Nursing from Sinclair Community College and her BSN from Andrews University.
