Anna (Townsend) King ’15, Music Education

Tell us more about you and your life, your profession, and your successes.

I am currently the choir director for Northmont Middle School (7-8) and Northmont High School (9-12) in Clayton, Ohio. After school hours, I co-direct four different pop a cappella groups at varying levels (one middle school, three high school). I also music direct the school’s musical each year. I have chaperoned trips to New York City as well as European tours. When I’m not being a choir director, I spend my time working for the Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team as a member of The Green Team. The Green Team is part of the entertainment for Fifth Third Field (mascots, providing on-field skits between innings, t-shirt tosses, etc.) Working for the Dragons has been an amazing experience - I am about to start my 7th season this year.

What is your favorite Wright State memory?

Other than meeting my husband at Wright State, I truly enjoyed my time in Collegiate Chorale under the direction of Dr. Hank Dahlman. The moment I looked forward to every year was during Holidays in the Heartland when all of the choirs performed The Armed Forces Medley. This was when the house lights in the Schuster Center came up and anyone who had served in the military would stand as we performed their song. I also just loved performing with the Wright State instrumentalists as a huge, combined ensemble.

What did receiving the ARTSGALA Scholarship mean to you?

Receiving an ARTSGALA scholarship meant that I could enjoy my time more at Wright State without worrying about financial stress. I tried to go to college with the intent of a great education while also not breaking the bank. An ARTSGALA scholarship helped me to do both at Wright State.
