QUARTET BIOGRAPHY
The Wright State University Saxophone Quartet was founded in 1997, as a performing chamber ensemble comprised of WSU music students under the musical direction of Associate Professor Shelley Jagow. Current members of the Quartet include: Adam Green on soprano, Michael Sawzin on alto, Kari Zuidema on tenor, and John Toerner on baritone. All members are music education and performance majors at Wright State University. The Quartet is a recipient of the Edgar Hardy Scholarship, the Dayton Chamber Music Society Scholarship, and the Wright State University Presidential Commendation for Excellence.
The quartet performs an exciting program with a musical repertory ranging from classic to jazz to contemporary and is often invited to perform at school and community events. The WSU Saxophone Quartet has performed in Ohio, Indiana, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Japan, and at the International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival, the 1999 OMEA/MENC North Central Division Conference, the 2001 and 2007 OMEA State Conference, the 1999 and 2001 Region V North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences, the 2003 MENC Northwest Regional Conference, the 2007 National MENC Conference (Utah), and the 2005 Region VIII North American Saxophone Alliance Conference. In 2006 the quartet was invited to perform at the United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, Virginia. In addition, for the past two years, the Quartet has won a full fellowship to attend the Chamber Music Institute at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Most recently, the quartet performed in a master class for Dr. William Street and legendary saxophone teacher/performer Jean-Marie Londeix who may be visiting Wright State University again in 2008!
