Catalog Description:
Focuses on issues related to personal and professional practice management; i.e., time and resource management, quality assurance, fundamentals of service delivery systems, and case management activities.
Teaching Philosophy:
First, I believe that the learning process should be enjoyable...even fun. I view graduate education as a developmental and mutual process. As a professor, my goal is to provide you with the relevant information and guidance to assist you in your development as a professional psychologist. As a student, your responsibility is to engage in the learning process and bring questions and comments to the classroom. As a graduate student, I assume that you will take responsibility for your learning. This means that you are expected to critically evaluate the information presented to you in class and in your readings, to integrate this information, and to challenge yourself, your peers, and the professor with your conclusions and questions. Graduate education is work. Hopefully this work will also be exciting and enjoyable.
Course Objectives:
Course Requirements:
Theoretical Presentation – groups of students will prepare a presentation of a theory of supervision. The presentation will include handouts to the class, a didactic presentation of the theory, and other presentation methods (e.g., role play, video tapes, etc.) 100 points (form)
Supervision Role Play – students will be assigned pairs and role play a supervision experience. Each student will select one clinical case and present this case to the other student in the role of supervisor. Each student will participate in three half-hour role play sessions as therapist and three half-hour role play sessions as supervisor. Guidelines for this role play experience will be presented in class. 150 points (100 pts for role play as supervisor, 50 points for role play as trainee)
Final Paper – Each student will prepare a formal paper detailing their theory of supervision. Papers will be between 8 and 12 pages in length and will include a minimum of five references.
