Changes in Geologic-Time Understanding in a Class for Pre-Service Teachers

I administered a multiple-choice test to pre-service teachers at the beginning and at the end of a ten-week introductory survey course on geology. Analysis of the questions dealing with geologic time indicate significant increases in their understanding of radiometric dating and of the scale of the geologic timeline. However, there were no significant changes in their understanding of what Earth was like 4.5 billion years ago nor of the breakup of Pangea.
