SCALE REQUIREMENTS FOR WOODWIND AREA II JURIES

FIRST QUARTER FRESHMAN OR TRANSFER STUDENTS
LEVEL IA
After ten weeks of lessons with WSU woodwind applied faculty the student will be able to perform the following scale requirement:
All major scales, in an order and range specified by the applied teacher, at a tempo of at least 8th notes equal 60 bpm. These must be performed with at least 95% accuracy, or less than one mistake per octave of scale.
TO BE PROMOTED TO LEVEL IIA
After two more quarters of study, usually at the spring quarter jury, the student will be able to perform the following scale requirement:
All major scales from memory, in an order and range specified by the applied teacher, at a tempo of at least 8th notes equal to 60 bpm. These must be performed with at least 95% accuracy, or less than one mistake per octave of scale.
At least one other form of the minor scales, in an order and range specified by the applied teacher, at a tempo of at least 8th notes equal to 60 bpm, and performed with at least 95% accuracy, or less than one mistake per octave of scale.
TO BE PROMOTED TO LEVEL IIIA
After three more quarters of study, usually at the spring quarter jury, the student will be able to perform the following scale requirement:
All major and minor scales from memory (48 plus chromatic), in an order and range specified by the applied teacher, at a tempo of at least 8th notes equal to 80 bpm, and performed with at least 95% accuracy.
TO BE PROMOTED TO LEVEL IVA
After three more quarters of study, usually at the spring quarter jury, the student will be able to perform the following scale requirement:
All major and minor scales from memory (48 plus chromatic), in an order and range specified by the applied teacher, at a tempo of at least 16th notes equal to 80 bpm, and performed with at least 95% accuracy.
