| Freshman Clarinet Audition Requirements
In order to be accepted into the Department of Music,
the student must be able to perform the following for an
entrance audition committee.
Scales: Major 2-octave scales up to 4#’s and 4b's, from memory,
at a tempo of at least quarter note = 60 BPM,
one scale step per beat, with 80% accuracy.
Etudes: Two etudes of contrasting tempo equivalent to David Hite
"Melodious and Progressive Etudes" Volume 1 (pub. by Southern)
performed with 80% accuracy.
Solos: Perform one movement from any solo equivalent to, or
including, works like those listed below, with 80%
accuracy.
Bassi/Voxman - Nocturne (published by Rubank)
Weber – Concertino, Op. 26 (Rubank)
Grechanioff - Suite Miniature (Rubank)
Stamitz - Concerto No. 3 (Peters)
Equipment: It is suggested that the student should own a professional
instrument in top mechanical condition with a good
mouthpiece and ligature. Recommendations include but are not limited to the following:
