ME 3310/5310: Thermodynamics I

Course description

This course studies energy and energy conversion from the classical thermodynamics perspective. Properties of fluids, conservation of mass, conservation of energy, and the second law of thermodynamics are studied. These principles are applied to engineering problems.

The topics to be covered include:
1. Introduction
2. Properties of substances
3. Energy, work and heat
4. First law of thermodynamics
5. First law of thermodynamics for control volumes
6. Second law of thermodynamics
7. Entropy
8. Gas power cycles
