ISDN stands for Integrated Services Digital Network. In other words,
digital phone lines. You don't hook up modems to ISDN, because they're
already digital. You just need an ISDN interface. With "basic rate", you
get what they call 2B+D. That's two 64Kbps channels, plus a "slow" 16kbps
channel used for call setup and signalling. The previously planned typical
use would be to use one B channel (64kbps) for high quality voice, while
at the same time you can use the other B channel (another 64Kbps) for a
"data" call, so that, for example, I could talk to you AND do a 64kbps file
transfer to you *at the same time*. Or, you can use both 64K channels
for data and get a 128K connection.
