The annual Department of Communication Award Ceremony is a time to come together and celebrate our outstanding students and alumni.

We recognize our Departmental Scholars who are students who have earned a 3.75 GPA or higher.   Also, faculty from each of the three degree tracks – Organizational Communication, Mass Communication and Communication studies – select 3 students, typically a sophomore, junior and senior for their outstanding qualities.  These qualities can be leadership inside and/or outside of the classroom, exceptional characteristics, hurdles they have overcome, and the like.  These 9 students are our “Outstanding students.”  One student receives accolades as the overall Senior Achievement Scholar to acknowledge their achievements as a Communication major.  One student applies for, and is revealed at the ceremony, as the recipient of the Greenwood Integrity Scholarship, which pays for their senior year of college.

We select “Friends of the Department” as being staff who help us help our students and recognize them at the Award Ceremony.  We know we are part of a whole and we can’t do it without other strong service-oriented professionals at Wright State.

Another aspect of the Award Ceremony is our ability to connect the past with the present.  An outstanding alumni is named and invited to speak as the keynote speaker.  During the meet-and-greet period after the awards are given, students and their families can interact with the outstanding alumni and any other alumni that have come back to visit.

This yearly tradition has given students and their loved ones, faculty, staff, and alumni a chance to appreciate one another and celebrate the achievements and talents of amazing people.
