What are your responsibilities as a presenter in
the program?
- Create a one hour presentation which
includes a hands-on activity.
- Complete an application.
- Your contact info from the application will
be posted on a separate website and the participating teachers will
use this site to choose scientist presenters for their monthly school
meetings.
- The teachers will contact you directly to
schedule presentations which are held after school Monday through
Friday in the mid to late afternoon.
- We understand how valuable your time is and
you may choose not to do presentations on certain days of the week and
you may say “no” to any teacher at any time. In addition, we will remove you from
the website/program any time you wish.
- We ask that presenters consider doing up to
four presentations per academic year.
Comments from our presenters!
There have been many
positive responses to the “Girls in Science Program” and as a
presenter myself, I can tell you that it is a personally rewarding
experience. The girls are eager to
participate and hear what you have to share with them!
“I believe in the mission of this program of keeping girls
interested in science. I think more
women should consider it (being presenters) because it doesn’t take
up that much time.”
L.A. (Environmental
Education Director)
“It’s a good way to give to the community and to show
young women that there are successful, professional women out there –
girls CAN succeed in the sciences.”
M.Q.
(Director of Meter Operations – Cinergy)
“I think the program is excellent! It is a very easy thing to do and is very
flexible. Everything is very
organized. I I really enjoyed
meeting the girls and teaching them a little bit about science. I also really appreciated the note they sent
to me after I visited.”
B.B. (Doctoral Student – UC)
“I enjoyed the classes I had the privilege of visiting and I
feel that I contributed something significant to society. I feel like a role model now.”
