Finding Scholarly Articles

America: History and Life Abstracts of articles on the history of the United States and Canada. Covers over 2000 scholarly journals.

JSTOR Full text of articles in backfiles of major scholarly journals, usually over 5 years old
Arts & Humanities Citation Index Citations to articles in about 1100 scholarly journals, including history journals. Click on the box beside Social Sciences Citation Index to include this companion index in your search. (These indexes are also called the ISI Web of Knowledge.)
*Includes Find It!
Humanities International Complete Index of articles in more than 2000 journals, with full text for more than 770. History is among the subjects covered.

    You can start your search for books on the University Libraries homepage under Search our Catalog.

    You can search for keywords, that is, words found anywhere in the description of a book. Often the the table of contents is included in the search, so you can find, for example, a book with a chapter about a particular person. Use an asterisk (*) to find alternate endings of a word (up to 5 letters).

    Each book is also assigned standardized subject headings. When you find a record for a book that interests you, you can find similar books by clicking on any highlighted subject listed in the book's record. Below are some examples:
