Recaps from Week 4:
Week 4: Goaltenders at both ends of the rink put in impressive performances throughout the evening.

The high-scoring Monkeys were shut out in the first half, before finally getting some goals against a much-improved Simon Says team.  Meanwhile, netminder Gene Tavares notched his second straight shutout performance.

The Midget Shooters and Nanooks battled to a 1-0 finish.  Greg Gstattenbauer's long clear was the only goal in the contest, with several valiant saves on both ends by Chris Pope and Matt Kennard.

Despite dropping for a narrow contest, BT made "like 50 saves" for the Ferrets.  Team captain Chris Werth made his first goal in four seasons really count, however, finally got the ball past BT with just over two minutes left in the contest.  The loss dropped the Ferrets from first to fourth place in the standings.

Goalies Alex Lambert and Nicholas Salvucci combined to shut out the Tax Dollars for 39 minutes and 38 seconds, making several impressive saves before the Tax Dollars finally managed to blast through the brick wall tandem, with just 42 seconds left in the contest.  The Debris had scored twice in the first half, though, and held on for the 2-1 victory, although a few of Kim Grabalski's saves were deserving of the highlight reel as well.

Recaps from Week 3:
Week 3: The Midget Shooters and Simon Says faced off in a scrappy contest.  Both goalies were tested several times in the opening half, but managed to preserve first-half shutouts at both ends of the ice.  James Johnson finally found the back of the net in the second half, but Mark Hepp's power play goal a few minutes later knotted the game once again, and both teams settled for the tie.

At the other end of the rink, the Super Monkeys used their characteristic crisp passing and laser shooting to hand the Tax Dollars a 9-0 drubbing.  Even though Tax Dollars goalkeeper Kim Grabelski made several impressive saves, the onslaught was simply too much for the Green Machine to handle.

The Dayton Nanooks had the unenviable task of cooling off the red-hot Ferrets, but were up to the task, keeping the contest scoreless in the first half before going up 2-0 in the second half.  With less than 10 minutes remaining, however, John Roehl managed to score twice, and the Nanooks, on the brink of savoring a victory, suddenly found themselves in an intense battle to preserve the tie.  Chris Pope denied Roehl his hat trick, however, despite some good opportunities, and the two teams ended deadlocked at two goals each.

The Orbital Debris went into the second half knotted in a 1-1 tie, due in large part to some fantastic goaltending by Nick Salvucci, who even played hurt after a shot to the crotch.  Team captain Greg Randlett simply shook his head after the game, commenting, "I told him he should get a cup."  In the second half, though, Ryan Snider scored twice and Brian Balcer added one as the Red Team cruised to a 4-1 win, climbing into third place in the standings.

Desserts by Ann K. Player of the Week: Alex Lambert (Orbital Debris)

Recaps from Week 2:
Week 2: Much like last week, the evening began with two nailbiters, then ended with more lopsided contests in the nightcaps.

In a hard-fought grudge-match opener, the defending-champion Red Team fell to .500 on the season, after a 1-0 loss to the Super Monkeys.  The two powerhouses began their match with cautious play, as neither goaltender had very much work for the first 10 minutes.  The game's intensity grew, however, as the clock ticked forward, with the game's lone goal coming in the latter part of the second half, on an 85-foot inbounding screamer by Sabrina Jackson.  That lone tally was enough, as netminder Gene Tavares and his yellow primates preserved their shutout.

Meanwhile, the Midget Shooters and Orbital Debris fought an emotional, see-saw battle at the other end of the ice.  Alex Lambert's second half goal - his second of the night - was the difference maker, as the Debris grabbed the win, and moved to 1-1 on the season.  Kendall Risha added a beautiful center-ice goal off her left foot (it was called back, but rumor has it that the kick was so precise, the Cleveland Browns were trying to reach her on Tuesday morning).

Inspired by their team's official theme music and new uniforms, the Nanooks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead versus Simon Says.  The ferocity of the game maintained its intensity in the second half, but neither team managed to get the ball into the net, as goaltenders Gwen and Rob Tenant combined for the Nanook no-no shutout.

The Ferrets jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Tax Dollars rallied back with a beautiful shot by Anthony Conti, which ricocheted in from the far-side post.  The teams came back onto the ice in the second half with the score at 2-1, but a barrage of goals, including John Roehl's second hat trick of the season, made it 5-1.  Goaltender Jeremy Oliver's glove served him well during the game, having made many impressive saves for the Tax Dollars, but, in the end, the onslaught of the 2-0 Ferrets - the league's only team with that perfect record - proved to be too much.

Desserts by Ann K. Player of the Week: C. Pope (Dayton Nanooks)

Recaps from Week 1:
Week 1: The 2010 season began with two hard-fought, tightly-knit contests on the ice.  The Monkey Ruckus managed to get a couple goals in each half of their contest, but late goals by the Nanooks in each half - including their first at 00:34 of the first period - kept the game tied.  Netminder Chris Pope managed to stymie the Ruckus on several occasions, including two golden late-game chances by last year's scoring leader Nathan Harro.

On the other end of the ice, the game was no less thrilling.  Knotted at 2-2 at the half, second half goals by Bob Neff (of the Midgets) and William McGee (of the Tax Collectors) preserved the tie.  Parity in the league?  It's only Week 1, but half the league sits in the middle of the standings at 0-0-1.

In contrast to the nailbiter openers, the nightcaps were lopsided slugfests.  Last year's league champion Red Team cruised to a 6-1 win, led by Ryan Snider's hat trick.  Meanwhile, John Roehl notched 5 goals in the Ferrets' 9-0 pounding of the Orbital Debris.  "We had a lot of fun, and nothing was hurt, except our pride," one member of the Debris remarked after the game.
