Park Hills High School
My favorite emails

Good Morning, Jeff.
My mother wanted this web site, and I went on it today to email the link to
her.  I was caught up in reading the letters (your favorites) and I tell you,
it is really nice to see how well most have done for themselves.  You never
know how people are going to turn out, and then suddenly it's there.  Even if
they aren't rich and famous (as I am sure most of us aren't) their
accomplishments large and small are fun to read about.  It's hard to believe
some are grandparents now (I started REAL late, so you won't see me in that
categorey until up in my sixties or seventies) and it is really nice to read
the successes of their kids as well.  As for mine, at the age of three he
decided he wanted to be the next Jonathan Lipnicki, and hasn't relented in
that quest since.  He did a movie called "The Yard" and has recently been
asked to appear on a sitcom.  I don't know how all of that will pan out, but
I am not pushing it.  I will let you know if he gets the part.

I hope everyone is happy, and I really hope we find more of the classmates.
Thank you so much for being the catalyst to keeping everyone informed.  If I
had a medal to give you, I would!  But I will just do something simple and
pray for your continued happiness and prosperity.

This September will be the 1st anniversary of my firm being knocked out of
the World Trade Center by the terrorist actions we all witnessed on TV.  I
think that brought home to me how quickly we can lose our loved ones.  I had
only worked for Morgan Stanley a few months when that happened, but it
affected me a great deal to know my friends and co-workers were in danger.
Luckily, out of 3700 people in two buildings, we only lost 7 precious lives.
Most were saved due to the constant hounding of Rick Roessler, the safety
manager in our firm.  He lost his life, but he saved thousands.  I hope you
all pray for the people who lost lives at WTC, and also for peace in our
world.  It is difficult to see all the terrorism in the world, and I am
blessed that we live in the good ole USA.  Kiss your kids, hug your parents,
love your family and friends.  It goes quickly, and they are the real
blessings in our lives.

I hope anyone who is interested will be in touch with me.  I really liked my
friends in school, and I only got to know a certain percentage of them well.
As I get older and crustier, I notice I still have a real soft spot in my
heart for all of them.

I am sorry I missed the reunion, but thanks to the marke't, it wasnt possible
to go that direction this year.  Maybe the next one (I hadn't missed any up
to that point).  I am really blessed to live near Rick and Carmen Gridley,
and it was good to see them in the photos!

Thanks again Jeff
Patricia Hobbs Dillmore

I received notice of your web site from Steve Topmiller. It was sure
interesting looking at the old photos - brought back a lot of memories! It's
hard to imagine we're getting that old. I've not made it back to any of the
reunions, but I'm going to try and make the 30th in 2002. I travel quite a
bit, but never seem to get to Ohio. My parent's have both passed away and my
wife's family all live in the Chicago area. I guess I haven't been to
Fairborn in 20 years. I keep in touch with Steve and Gary McClimans, but I
haven't seen anyone else from high school for 25 years!
I've lived in Mobile now for 7 years. I'm a Principal and the Technical
Director of a moderate-sized environmental consulting firm. Tina, my wife of
21 years, is an Associate Professor of Oceanography at a local college. I
have a 13 year old daughter and a 3 year old son (we got started late and we
also had a small gap in between!). I noticed that Brian Williamson lives on
Dauphin Island - we have a beach home on the island so I will have to look
him up - small world!
Look forward to seeing you in 2002. I've attached a jpeg of my wife
Tina, daughter Brittany, and son Justin.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the notice of the upcoming picnic.  I haven't yet attended any
reunion events and this one won't be an exception, but I am considering
going to the 30th reunion in 2002.  I haven't been in Fairborn since
sometime in the late 70s; I bet it's changed a lot.  And I bet my classmates
have changed at least as much.

I looked over the PHHS web site you've built.  It's great!  I think it's
quite public-spirited of you to undertake a web site for all PHHS classes
in addition to just your own.  I read through all the pages for the classes
of '72 and '73.  At first, reading through your page of letters from '72,
I was surprised by how many classmates live far away from Fairborn.
Later, looking over your comprehensive list of classmate addresses I was
just as surprised by how many people still live near Fairborn!  Of course,
I can't reasonably have it both ways; the conclusion I reached was that
classmates that have moved away are more likely to send you email.

If you decide to put this letter or an excerpt on your site, please include
the following synopsis of my last 28 years:  I've married and separated
and am raising my two children, a daughter, Americia, age 9, and a son,
William, age 7, half-time in Ithaca, NY.  After dropping out of a PhD
program in elementary-particle physics at Cornell I got interested in
the problem of building dependable and secure computer systems and have
been investigating that problem for the US military since 1984.  Life is
good and getting better, especially since, about age 40, I learned
to be less fearful of what other people think.

Hey Jeff, it's me Lynn...back from the e-mail dead.  Actually, we have had service
but I have been very lax in getting around to e-mailing anyone but my Mom!
Carl and I are sharing an e-mail address cause we have this rinky dink internet service.
I'm having a hard time believing it has been 9 months this weekend since we moved!
It has gone very quickly and we love it!  Our jobs are pretty cool and the area is great.
We are in the Hickory area which is close to the mountains, 5 hours from the beach or
Atlanta.  Probably 8 from Florida (if we wanted to go).  We're only 40+ miles from
Charlotte if we get homesick for a big city (Cincinnati style).  We have pro basketball,
pro football, pro hockey and some of the greatest college teams and sports in the country!
I haven't found too many bad things...a little backward in the race arena...don't care for that...
but I'll get them turned around before it's over!  Let me know what's going on.

Dear Jeff -
Yes Tina and I are very excited about becoming Grandparents. No the kids
live in Little Rock. It is 810 miles. Our son in law started working for the
Alltel phone company while he was in school down there and has a great job with
them (he is a regional sales manager). Our daughter works for them also (she is
an accountant) but plans to quit when the baby is born. Being a Mom has always
been her main goal and with Jason's job they will be able to swing it. Jason is
thinking that he may get transfered sometime in the next year and maybe it will
be closer to home.

It won't be too many years and you and Linda will be empty nesters. It is
weird. When you enjoy your kids as much as Tina and I have ours it is very hard
to see them go. We are very proud of the fact that ours went so far away to
school and have made it as many don't. It is very hard when you pull away after
leaving them at school. I would guess that yours will be going to Wright State.
Ours have gone and are going to Harding University in Searcy, AR. Brad is
majoring in elementary education.

How long have you and Linda been married? Did you get married about the
same time we did? We have been married for 27 years which just doesn't seem
possible of course I have been working for Kellogg's for 25 now.

My folks are both still doing well pushing 80 now. They live in Denver
where my sister and her family live. They have been out there for about 12 years
now. They are both still very active and in pretty good health. Dad has had some
heart problems off and on plus a new knee but for the most part is good. My
younger brother Tom still lives in Fairborn on Ironwood as a matter of fact.

I am in London, Ont. at the moment working. In my line of work I am on the
road a lot. If you see a new snack cereal line in the store from us called Snack
Ums in a canister (like Pringles) that is what I am doing.

I will have to go through the old scrap books at home and see if I have
anything to add to the site. I had forgotten about the great watertower scandal.
I also thought about our bonfires we used to have when the tragedy hit A&M this
year.

Good to talk with you Jeff. I wish more of the "kids" were on line. I guess
I could call but that is just so out of it dude.

Back in 1991 I called the school (no longer called Park Hills) to try to
find someone to contact for reunions ... I even wrote two letters but never
received a response or any other information.  This morning, in a nostalgic
mood, the thought occurred to search the web for Park Hills High... I can't
believe I found someone... much less a whole web site (nice job, too).  But
I've missed all the reunions!! Well, I'll be there for the next (30 year)!

Do you remember me?  Former Basketball Cheerleader ...saw the letters re
Debbie Bushnell and Nicki & Craig, Patti ... brought tears to my eyes.

Yes, I live just outside New Orleans, have been down here since 1979.  FYI
is Mardi Gras is great but Jazz Fest is even better!  After divorcing in
1982, I finished college and then went to Loyola Law School in New Orleans,
finished in 1992.  My practice is in legal malpractice defense, product
liability defense and general litigation.

I have a daughter, Jennie, who is 21, married and will have my 1st
GRANDCHILD next week!!! Jeez, are we getting old!!!  I saw where others have
asked for a list of e-mail addresses, if you have one, I'd love to have it.
Does anyone live anywhere around me?? I would love to see or hear from
people -- what's happened to everyone?

Great memories,
Pat Lynch

Dear Jeff,
I just recently found the website. Great job! Sorry I missed the 25th
reunion. I moved to Springfield, TN and  I guess nobody knew where to
contact me. Anyway, I didn't find out about it until too late. I am looking
forward to the next reunion.

I began a new caeer a few yars back. I am now in my 5th year of teaching
music at a K-12 public school in Cedar Hill, TN. I am the elementary
music teacher and Junior High Choir Director. I also am a music minister. I am
the pianist at my church, Victory Assembly of God, and also lead worship at
a charismatic Baptist Church down the road from my own church. It keeps me
busy! Actuslly, I am happier than I have ever been. I love teaching. God
has blessed me with a wonderful family (wife, Debi and daughter, Sarah) and
a great job!

I couldn't help notice that you have a university email adress. If you
have time, drop me a line.

Oh yeah! I just finished visiting Brian Williamson this summer. He lives
on Dauphin Island in the Mobile, AL area. He's listed in the directory. He
and his family (2 boys and one girl) are doing fine.

Yours in Christ Jesus,
Donny Howard

Hi! Craig's brother, Keith, sent us the web page address, and I'm
cleaning out the mailbox and thought I'd take a really good look at this
before progressing -- I'm not gonna throw it out! How are you and
Carlene and the family?  Our oldest is graduating high school June 6th!
Yikes! Can we really be this old?! She's chosen to stay in state, and
we're glad; it's a small Catholic liberal arts college about 2 hours
south of the Twin Cities (we live in a suburb of St. Paul), just far
enough.  I'm excited for her (she'll end up doing something creative,
writing or arts); I think I've gotten over the separation anxiety blues,
but we'll see how I feel come Sept.  I saw Debbie (Bushnell) a few times
before the family moved to Amsterdam because of John's job; they live in
Tampa now. I keep in touch with Jaye (Stansbury) Wilson and Patty
(Doran) Einstein; two years ago we met for a long weekend in western
North Carolina -- Jaye lives north of the High Point area and Patty
lives in Greenville, S.C. We're planning to meet in Martha's Vineyard
this fall.
Craig is in practice with 2 other docs; they're very busy, which
is good and bad (stess!).  Our youngest, Kate (14 yrs.), is a typical
teenage girl who lives to drive her parents crazy!! I'm on the board of
a community service organization, fund raising and volunteering -- and I
really enjoy it! What's new with you guys? And, with the rest of our
gang?  Thank you for maintaining this page, Jeff! Hope to hear from you
soon! Love to all the gang in Fairborn!

Jeff: Will it really be 30 years in 2002? It was just yesterday we were
building our Junior year homecoming bonfire!!  I keep touch with a few
classmates (Denise Harner and I are still close friends,  she keeps me
informed pretty well.) How have you been? With that .edu on your email,
I'd guess you were linked to wsu somehow.

I had a brief stint in the US Navy, then got in the machine trade for
some strange reason.    I currently work as an R&D engineer at an
electronics firm in Columbus. ( I have a 90 mile daily commute!! Good
thing I like driving, ain't it..)  I also own a small computer business,
concentrating on hybrid machines for special applications.

I've been happily married to Becky Ertel, a 1977 PHS grad, for five
wonderful years. She is the Director of Supplemental Instruction at
Central State. We got married on our Motorcyles riding down fairfield
rd.in July of 1995.  Chuck Westfall was there, it was about 3 weeks
before he died.  He was a different Chuck than I knew in High School and
the 3 or 4 years shrotly after. He seemed at peace with himself and the
world, not the rebel that I knew... (jeez, listen to me, I'm babbling
like an old fart!!)

I've been blessed with four wonderful children, and have four
grandchildren. My youngest son, Joshua, is a B+ Junior at JVS in CAD &
Drafting. When he graduates college in 2002 (hopefully!!), we intend to
start a prototype design business. I still love 2 wheels, but I traded
my Kawasaki ZX-11 Ninja for a mountain bike last summer.  It's a lot
slower, but I will probably live longer.  Please add my email address to
the list. Thanks for the work you for the class, if you ever need any
help on a web page, just ask!!  (p.s. my web page is at
http://users.erinet.com/29135)

I'd love to see you guys some time!

Hi Jeff:
Do you remember me?  Because I went to Dayton Christian my
senior year, I didn't graduate from Park Hills.  Would you believe
that I still wear my PHHS ring after all these years though?  We were
in Mrs. Maples' sixth grade class and others through Five Points Jr.
High, as well as some for two years at PHHS.
You've done a good job assembling the web page on Park Hills.

Hi Jeff:
I'm glad that you wrote back.  I figured that you might be out of
town.  As for how I found the web page, Don Basham let me know about it.
Don and I were neighbors and good friends in HS, but we lost contact
with each other more than 20 years ago.  A couple of weeks ago he saw an
article about me in a magazine.  He used my USC affiliation to find my
e-mail address.  We've had a couple of long telephone conversations
since then, in which I asked about people that we knew growing up, so he
sent the web address.
I've been at a regional campus of USC for 13 years.  I hope to be
promoted to full professor this year.  I teach astronomy and physics.  I
completed an MS in physics at Clemson and an MA and PhD in astronomy at
Indiana.  You've been at Wright State quite a while.  Did you go to
college there?  Tell me about your family.  I've been married for 22
years, and I have a nearly 11 year old son.

Jeff,
We just moved uphere, last June. I have met a lot of nice people up here.
My wife worksin Englewood, and she was tired of the drive to Beavercreek.
So, now I get to do all the driving. I work at GM in Moraine. We bought an
old farm house on three acres, it has a couple barns and 2 acres of it is
pasture.
Right now we have 3 pigs, that the kids take care of and we have some
chickens. In the spring, I am going to buy a couple beef cattle to feed
out. I love it up here, it is like "GOD'S COUNTRY".  And yes we did get
a lot of snow, but I made it to work everyday.

How have you been?  And how is Steve doing and is he around here?

See ya,

Jeff,
Hi, this is Doug Adams. Just found our high school web page and
thought I would give you the most up to date info on us. Probably
one of the few with the same wife, Katie. Since our last reunion
we have moved to Tempe, Arizona from the Chicago area. The weather
here is just great. We both work for Motorola as we did in Chicago
just a different group. You have done a nice job on the web page
this should make finding people and keeping up with changes a lot
easier. Cant wait til our (gulp) 30th reunion let us know what is
happening thereand if you run into others that i know say hi.

Jeff, how are you? I thought I would write a note to say HI!, and to have you add our
address to your e-mail list. We live in TN right now after having moved here from
SC(Greenville). I wish I could have attended the reunion, but this is probably one of
the busiest summers we've had barring our major moves. Our youngest, Stacie graduated
from high school, and we have had loads of company. She will attend UT in the fall, so
we are busy getting her ready. Now that the website is on, I will be able to update our
address changes should they occur, although I am hoping this is the last step up Phil's
career ladder and we can settle here. Tennessee has grown on me, and I never thought the
words would come from lips or fingers. We moved from one side of the mountains to other,
and before that we were in the White Mountains of NH. Tom Molano lives in the town
bordering the small village we lived, but I didn't know until after we left for SC,
small world we live in.
Thanks for taking your time to provide this service to your old classmates.

Regards and best wishes,
Rhea Lynn (Brooks) Lawrence

I just saw the website.  It's way cool.  Not because you've got java applets
shooting fireworks into the cosmos, but because it has content and simplicity.
I think there's a lot of that missing on the web today.  End of sermon.

When I get back in my office I'm going to try to download the class list.  I'm
writing back to you from home and I don't have a DBMS on my machine here, just
Excel.  I'm also going to try out the other email addresses when I get some
time.

When I wrote back to Lynn I was inquiring about athletes left over from our
class.  My body has suffered a lot of wear and tear, but I still get out and
play tennis, basketball, baseball, golf, or all the above as often as I can.
With my folks' health problems, I'll likely be spending a fair amount of time
in Ohio over the next year or so.  I'd like to hook up with some folks who can
sweat.  I'm also interested in connecting with other folks as time permits.  I
drive by your folks' place on Ironwood frequently when I come ack to visit my
folks and think back to grade school.  Maybe we can hook up the next time I
swing through town.  Or if you happen to visit our nation's capital...

Lynn,

I'm sorry I only cc:d you.  It's clearly my lack of sensitivity showing again.
To be honest, I didn't know for certain that you would remember me, but having
grown up down the street from Jeff, and having walked to school with him for
years at Five Points, I felt he would.  I've been away from Fairborn for such
a long time, and I know my memory has faded with the years, that I thought
Jeff was a safer bet.  You probably don't remember the Tom Swaim incident, do
you?  I suppose since it was my butt on the line, it's only natural that it
has stayed with me longer.

Anyway...

I'll talk to my spousal unit and see what she thinks about bringing the kids.
She's not that hot on visiting Ohio to begin with, so if I tease her with the
chance to ditch the kids for a few days, that may make her much more
receptive.  Right now, count us for just two.

The beer sounds appealing, although I don't drink anymore, the alcohol makes
everyone around think I'm much more interesting than I am.  I need that.  Does
the Party Barn have any attractions besides beer, like horse shoes,
volleyball, tennis, basketball, or even chrome bumpers to watch rust?  I don't
know whether I can spend 8 nonstop hours reminiscing about old times.  And I
know my wife will be pulling on my sleeve after the first story about cutting
class to run out to John Bryan.

I'm also open to help with setup or clean up or other mainly manual
labor-based activities that don't require my presence in Ohio before Friday
night.  Let me know what I can do.

I'm copying Jeff and Doug (Franklin) Webber on this note to expand awareness
of all the parties involved.  If you have an electronic version of the reunion
invitation, I'm sure Doug (Franklin) would appreciate it.  I would give you
his street address, but I don't have his current one.

I've been spending a fair amount of time in Ohio in the last 6 months, because
of my folks' health problems, but haven't had a chance to network with old
friends.  I'm particularly interested in finding someone who plays tennis,
basketball, and/or golf that I could hook up with when I come back from time
to time.  Hopefully, the reunion will give me that chance.

From your last name, Lynn, did you perchance hook up with Grayling?  I seem to
remember he used to play a pretty fair game of basketball.  If his knees
aren't any more shot than mine, perhaps he would be interested in getting out
to play some hoops.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in July.

Dear Jeff and Lynn,
I received the invitation to the 25th class reunion, but I'm 90% sure I
will not be able to attend.  I am living in the Netherlands with my
husband, John and three children.  Thank you so much for all the work
and planning for the reunion.  I really enjoyed the "Home Page" and
reading all the news.  I was able to see Craig and Nicki Hyser a little
while we lived in Minnesota and it was great fun to catch up on the
Class of '72.  Sorry to miss all the fun. Again, many thanks.
Warm regards,

Deb Bryant (Bushnell)

Jeff:  It was nice to see so many faces from days gone by.  I regret
that you and Joe and I did not get to really get to have any real
conversation.  Perhaps we can get together sometime when we come to town
to see my sister, Rhea.  She lives in Midway.  Tina, is is North Dakota
and is a school teacher.  Our boys will be in high school this fall.
Dan is 16 and driving and is a sophmore.  He has the music talent.
David is 14 and will be a freshman.  He is the dramatic and comic.  I
remember you mentioned that one of your children was going to be at
Wright State this fall.  It is hard to believe that Wright State was a
small college and mow it is so large.  Several of the youth in our
community have attended Wright State.  In your past e-mail, you ask
about my mon.  She past away in 1987.  since then, we have not had much
reason to return to Fairborn area.

Again, thanks to Lynn and you for planning a fun evening in July.
Please return the web site address for Park Hills, as we have misplaced
our copy.  Say hello to those we missed at the reunion that you see
often.
Fondly,   Kathi Willhoite Hamblin

Jeff:...where to begin....to many to mention....look forward to this
reunion...want to see how everyone has faired over the years.  Presently have
a position with the V.A. Medical Center here in Indianapolis,  Will have my
twenty-five years gov't gala this year.  Have toyed with many things thru the
years:...real estate, investments, contracting, administrative consultant,
landscaper, construction, community leader, board member, if you want to know
more...we will have to chat at the reunion.

Life has been quite an adventure since Park Hills.  Some things that I
did not realize,  that was not common knowledge.   Were you aware that they
had accelerated ciriculum at the school while we attended??  This knowledge
was not privy to the attendees or to the parents.  I checked with my mother
and see had no knowledge about it...Is there a possibility of you checking
with the administrator and see if they have any knowledge about it, or whom
we might contact and find out what program the we instituting so I can do
research on it??

No rush...just a thought.   How have you been??...Forgive my memory...It
has been twenty five years.  Anyway,  hope that this finds you well and in
good health.
Is there any assitance that I might offer for the reunion??

Keep me in mind.  Nice to chat...and will look forward to our meeting.

In mind and spirit,

Jeff - The site is great!! How about a list of e-mail addresses? I can't make
the pig roast as I will be in Sydney, Australia on business at the time but
feel you guys are right on that 25 years should be celebrated! As the years
march on I wish that we would get together every 5 instead of 10 even if it
isn't real formal. I guess I feel a need to return to my roots a little every
now and then. Things are great with the Bigelows. Daughter Shannon was
married last Aug. and will graduate this Dec. with an Acct. Degree. Son Brad
is now  6'-5" and will be a senior in the fall. Excellent basketball player
which I was not if  you notice the absence of my face in the 8th grade
picture! Tina and I are both busy with work and being parents. I'm still with
Kelloggs (21years) and traveling the world over  - I was in Spain last month.
I must say I went a little numb at the site of some of our departed
classmates. We just aren't invencible like we thought we were 25 years ago
are we? Have a great pig roast and say Hi! to everyone for me please. My
e:mail is Dan.Bigelow@Kellogg.com
Thanks Jeff!  Your old neighbor Dan. P.S. Do you remember watching Dick Tracy
in the morning at your house before school?

It's just as great to hear from you!  The family is fine -- Jeff (age 20)
is now a sophomore at Ohio University and Jon (age 13) is a 7th grader at
Baker.  Michael and I have been married almost 17 years now and Jeff
still sees his dad, Mike, quite often.

I've been at Montgomery County for 11 years and I'm now the ED/GE
Coordinator for the County -- that means I take care of this innovative
tax sharing program they created back in 1991 -- we dole out $5 million
per year in County sales tax for economic development projects.  It's a
cool program and I've been with it since the beginning, but just got the
promotion to Coordinator last Fall.  I finally got out of that damned
"clerical" realm without a degree!

I'm really sorry I can't make the reunion -- but, we'll be basking on the
beaches of North Carolina and celebrating the 4th of July with some
friends from here and from Raleigh-Durham.  I hate that I won't see any
of you -- god, we'll all be so old in 5 years, I won't recognize anyone.
Hardly anyone recognized me at the 20 since my hair was so gray, I wore
glasses and had gotten so fat!  Oh well, gravity and my kids have
certainly taken their toll on this ole gal.

My parents are doing okay.  They celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary last November.  Daddy has had several strokes -- I'm going to
Hillsboro (where they moved several years ago) on Thursday to go with
them to the neurologist -- they're going to do an MRI and an MRA on him
-- his mind is still quite fine; however, his motor skills have been
affected by the strokes.

What are you doing at Wright State?  I worked there in 1978 - 80 in the
Graduate School and then moved out to Rosary Hall and worked for the
American Board of Preventive Medicine through the Medical School from
1980-82.  I still have a really good friend who works over there -- I
think he does pre-med counseling - Bob Wood -- if you know him, give him
a jingle for me and tell him hello.

Please give me a call sometime.  I'd love to get together for drinks or something
since I'll miss the reunion.
Think of me, okay?

Love ya....
