Jan. 20 We are now heading north going through Balintang Channel. Had bogies1 all day. Shot down about 12 planes. Passed through the channel. Expect to hit Formosa tomorrow. * Moved through Balintang Channel from the
  South China Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

1. Bogies - Enemy aircraft.
Jan. 21 Launched strikes and VF1 sweeps against aircraft and shipping at Tahas Harbor. Had quite a few bogies2, including Kamikaze3 bogie. Langley4 was hit with bomb. Ticonderoga5 took a bomb and a Kamikaze. Many killed and wounded. Captain and exec wounded. About 12 bogies were shot down. Some of them by AA6 fire from the disposition. I think Essex7 got one. Ticonderoga is going back to Ulithi. She's in pretty bad shape. * 130 miles E of Formosa - (22-38 N 122-53 E)
