Some other things that I worked on in this class are a fishbowl argument, a
morality argument letter, and the logical fallacy we found and analyzed.
- Fishbowl Argument - In this project, the class split up into small
groups and decided on a topic to debate. My group chose the issue of gay
marriage. I argued that gay marriage should be legal, and the following
were my reasons for doing so:
- The definition of marriage first says it is the state people of the
opposite sex being united, and afterward says people of the same sex in a
relationship like that of traditional marriage. (source:
Merriam-Webster)
- Rebuttal to Religion argument: The United States is based on freedom of
religion, which includes freedom from religion. Even though the Bible
may ban gay marriage, the first amendment says that Congress shall make no
law respecting an establishment of religion.
- Morality Argument Letter - My letter argues that the legal drinking
age should be lowered in the United States. My reasoning behind it was
that people need to learn how to drink before they learn how to drive, and
also that soldiers should be able to buy alcohol if they can die for their
country.
- Logical Fallacy - I found several logical fallacies in the rooming
handout "23 Reasons Why You Should Live on Campus!" This is a very
biased document comparing different issues of living off and on campus.
In the parking issue for live off campus, it says "You get/need two parking
spaces: one outside your door at your apartment, and the other wherever you
can find a spot when you're late for class." This assumes that you will
be late for class, when living off campus has nothing to do with that.
