There are many different circumstances in our lives that can be classified as stress.  For most people, stress is seen as a negative experience.  But as we will see, that is not always the case.

bullet

Frustration  When we are thwarted during the pursuit of some goal, we experience frustration.  Frustration is often followed by feelings of aggression.  Failures and losses are particularly stressful for people

bullet

Conflict  Conflict is observed when someone is considering different options.  This is one example of stress that can be positive.  You would probably envy someone who was trying to decide how to receive a multimillion dollar jackpot.  Conflict can also be negative.  You can see this in the example of someone deciding whether to take a degrading job, or go on unemployment.

bullet

Change  Significant life changes can cause significant amounts of stress.  Marriage, changing careers, and moving are all events that can cause stress.

bullet

Pressure  Pressure refers to a demand that you behave in a certain way.  Pressure can be caused by parents, employers, or even society at large.
