Before arriving at
Wright State in 1995, I studied retrovirology with Nobel Laureate Howard
Temin at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. I began my
long-standing interest in virology while studying DNA tumor viruses at the
Pennsylvania State University with Dr. Richard Frisque, where I earned an
honors B.S. degree in the field of Microbiology in 1986. At Harvard, I
researched AIDS virus pathogenesis with Dr. Ronald Desrosiers and earned my
Ph.D. degree in 1992. Using state-of-the-art methods in virology and cell
culture, I continue my studies on AIDS and have initiated new biodefense
projects on viruses and bacteria that have the potential to be used as weapons of mass
destruction.
