sept-march-route The route of the march.
09-24-05_1331 Constitution Avenue - This was where the march began. The route was so crowded that we virtually stood still for over an hour.
09-24-05_1332 Still Constitution Ave...
09-24-05_1333 A view of the Washington Monument from Constitution Ave. There were large crowds around the monument as well.
09-24-05_1352 A guitar isn't a fiddle, and New Orleans isn't Rome, but the picture on this sign was taken while the president was on vacation during katrina.
09-24-05_1359 The pink peace sign was a display for Code Pink, a women's group aimed at ending the war. They were very well organized, friendly, and inclusive of all of us around them. Here is a link for thier web site: http://www.codepink4peace.org/article.php?list=type&type=3
09-24-05_1414 Do I need to say more?
09-24-05_1420 This was in a tree at the corner of Constitution and 15th.
09-24-05_1432 Rounding the corner at Constitution and 15th.
09-24-05_1437 There were many signs/speeches about how the war abroad has left the homefront neglected/vulnerable.
09-24-05_1438 Heading up 15th.
09-24-05_1443 Halfway up 15th, another sign about the neglect on the homefront.
09-24-05_1457 Continuing on 15th.
09-24-05_1500 Code Pink again...the large pink swath of cloth on the left side of this picture is a piece of lingerie (its a pink slip). The pun is not so subtle, but gets their message across.
09-24-05_1502 15th, nearing the turning point at Pennsylvania Ave.
09-24-05_1503 and another...
09-24-05_1504 and another...
09-24-05_1511 I took this one from standing on a lamp post to try to get a bit above the crowd. The noise here was incredible as the building on both sides of the street bounced the sound right back at the crowd.
09-24-05_1517 Billionaires for Bush on Pennsylvania Ave, nearing the White House.
09-24-05_1522 A monument in Lafayette Park, across from the White House. Professional photographers climbed anything they could to get a higher view of the procession.
09-24-05_1523 A view of the march as it passes the White House.
09-24-05_1524 Another view of the march at the White House.
09-24-05_1533 Another not so subtle display at the corner of 17th and H Street.
09-24-05_1546 14th Street, the march continues....this is problably about 3 to 3 1/2 hours into the march.
09-24-05_1614 The background shows a small counter protest of about 100 people on Pennsylvania Ave. They were confined behind barriers with lots of police around to keep things civil. The marchers were pretty well behaved around the display, with some taking creative jabs back.
09-24-05_1615 An example of the type of counter-protests that were going on.
09-24-05_1619 Some did not march, but instead picked a good spot to allow the procession to pass by their display.
09-24-05_1717 At the Washington Monument a cross was displayed for each serviceperson that has died in Iraq. The crosses wrapped around the north lawn.
09-24-05_1718 The crosses from a different location
09-24-05_1719 Caskets were also used to represent the fallen.
