About Me

Well, you probably have seen all the academic mumbo-jumbo about me already, but hopefully you are here because you want to know more about me :) So here you go.

I always wanted to be a teacher - I love teaching, and I think it is the best job in the world, as long as it does not take up all my time. So what do I do during the rest of my time? Well, research, of course. But then I try to take at least a big bit of my life doing some fun things as well, so here are some of my interests outside the academic life.

Running

One of my biggest goals in life is to run a marathon some day. I have run many fun races including the Peachtree Road Race and Atlanta Half Marathon in Atlanta, GA., The Indy Mini in Indianapolis, IN., and the San Francisco Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, CA. Unfortunately I have not managed to give enough training time to be able to run a full marathon yet, but that's definitely something I would love to do.

Recently I started using the Nike+iPod product to track and time my runs. While its not absolutely accurate (I guess its based on a pedometer, so there will always be some inconsistencies) its very useful to motivate yourself to run and stay ahead of goals. Check it out at http://www.nikeplus.com. On the right you can see the last five runs I did.

My last few races and timings:

  • 2009 Cincinnati Flying Pig 1/2M: 2:03:06
  • 2008 Dayton River Corridor Classic 1/2M: 1:58:12
  • 2008 US Airforce WSU 5k: 25:12
  • 2007 US Airforce/WSU 5k: 27:08
  • 2007 San Francisco Bay to Breakers: 1:12
  • 2006 Dayton River Corridor classic: 2:32 (ouch)*

* I ran that half marathon with achiles tendonities that I managed to run into while training for it, but I was glad that I at least finished it. I wish I remember all the other races and timings from before, but I enjoy running races and like the crowd in these races.

I have made a resolution to run 2000 km (about 1243 miles) this year... you can drop me a line to cheer me up, or give me boot! Give it a shot!.

Table Tennis

My favorite game, and I love playing it, seriously and also for fun. I played USTTA and reached around the 1500s in ranking but then of course, I graduated and there was no more time for serious practice. But I still try to play for fun, and hopefully someday I will get back into more serious levels.

Motorcycles

Not the big tourers, but I love sporty and decently fast bikes. Right now I own a Suzuki GSF 500 - you are welcome to check out the most accessed website that I ever created - my love affair with motorcycles
