Catalog description

MIS425 Business Networks and Telecommunications (4.0 cr.)

Familiarize students with the background, concepts, types, proper applications, and components of telecommunications, network design, and distributed information systems. Emphasis is on the telecommunications technology and its impact on information systems and business operations.

Pre-requisites: MIS 300.

Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the concepts around business networking, and also to give students a chance to practise the skills using hands-on activities.

Upon successfully completing this course, the student will:

  1. understand the basic principles and standards governing business networking;
  2. understand the working of networking hardware and software;
  3. learn how to set up proper network installations;
  4. learn how to troubleshoot sites and installations involving networks;
  5. learn the ethical, analytical and security issues with networking technologies.
