Web Admin - Meeting Notes

October 2002

Hidden away in the deep recesses of Allyn Hall, we hid our meeting in the Communications & Marketing meeting room. Those illegal monkey fights aren't looked kindly upon, after all.

But I digress...

Business Services. Working with Art Neff to revamp all the Business Services pages with one unified look. One of the key things I wanted to touch on here is that we're trying to get them to really look at what they can do online; we're not just representing the existing site, but we're trying to get people to re-examine how they do business from day to day, and how the Internet might be able to help improve that. (http://www.wright.edu/testing/amy/busserv/)

Kettering Center. Site has launched. Most of the content is now driven by an online database, which certain designated individuals have access to modify. The idea is to unify and codify the information they have in one central location, so changes can be made quickly, easily and unilaterally from any location. (http://www.wright.edu/cpd/)

Search Results. The question of search results rankings has come up recently. As web administrators, you already have quite a bit of power to affect those results yourself. Please use the META tags available to increase or decrease search results, as necessary. For more information, check out our Search Information page.

Web Stats. As noted earlier, Web Trends was causing all sorts of problems. We are currently running tests on WS Stats software, and will begin generating reports on all groups that previously had Web Trends reports, once that testing is complete.

Department of Biology. Helped Eileen move her site from their old server to the main WSU web server. Also worked in a redesign that Eileen had started. The DNS switch should occur sometime this week.

Misc. We're also working, in varying degrees, on new designs for CUPA, Campus Rec, Bolinga Center, Student Union, College of Engineering, and Undergraduate Admissions. There are also upcoming meetings with SOPP and Department of Computer Science and Engineering to discuss web overhauls.

Eileen Porter. Just moved the Biology site. (See above.)

Katie Taylor. Mostly revamping Modern Languages right now. Also re-doing ESL and Classics.

Roger Carlson. The server "implosion" from a while back is still being worked on. While the machine itself has long been fixed, some of the information on the server was lost. It has been replaced with older info and Jeff Dabney has been working almost solely on fixing everything over there.

Greg Kojola. The new site implementation went smoothly. A handful of minor issues, but working on a test server helped immensely.

And we ended the meeting by taking a look at who won the infamous Blip vs. Gleek battle.
