Web Admin - Meeting Notes

August 2002

Well, some people take their job seriously enough to show up to the meetings they're scheduled for! You know, if we were all living in the dystopia that makes up the Max Headroom world from my initial e-mail, my Q-ratings would be in the toilet! And here I thought I was livening things up!

But I digress...

WebTrends. Major problems with reporting software. It's not picking up many of the relevant page requests, despite the complete and uncorrupted log files. Looking into obtaining new software, possibly home-grown solution if nothing currently available works well enough. For kicks, we took a look at what a log file looks like and how WebTrends is (supposed to be) interpretting it. Also, a reminder that common-use terminology isn't necessarily what counts in a WebTrends report. Use the glossary, so you know exactly what you're looking at.

iChat. This is our front-runner in the chat development arena. We're currently investigating licensing and programming details to ensure that we can use one copy of the software university-wide. Currently being test run on web2.wright.edu:4080/chat/.

Secondary Level Pages. Amy's currently going through and re-organizing/updating these pages for better usability. (www.wright.edu/testing/amy/secondary/current.html)

Grad Catalog. Have integrated several pieces for uniform information across the web. Data is extracted from the Registrar's database and sent to us. It's then converted to be used in several places online simultaneously. In theory, the next printed catalog will take content from this. (www.wright.edu/academics/gradcatalog/)

Pathways to Success. College life acclimation program for African-American students. Set up web site to help start a sense of community before the students arrive on campus. (www.wright.edu/pathways/)

Admitted Students. Web site contains error message. Fixed quickly. Please send any other errors that you find to me so we can make sure WSU continues to project a positive online image.

Plus, we're still working on some of the other stuff I mentioned in previous meetings.

Greg Kojola. Site overhaul complete. Will go live on September 7, 2003. Old accounts will be disabled September 5, and new/updated accounts must be specifically requested again. (This is being done to help clear out old data.)

Shirley McKee. Working on revamping Institute for Environmental Equality.

Katie Taylor. Been mostly busy moving COLA into Millett.

Kurt Cypher. Updating main web server and doing chat software research.

Kirsten Bell. Redesign nearly complete. Lot of small details to finalize. Also working to have award letters sent out through ROX.
