Web Admin - Meeting Notes

May 2002

For those of you who weren't able to show up to our last Web Administrators Meeting, I'll run through some of the highlights. (But you no-shows are missing out. It was a big party: lots of dancin' and signin' and movin' to the groovin'. And just when it hit me, somebody turned around and shouted "Play that funky music, white boy!")

But I digress...

Introduction of Sean Kleefeld as University Web Coordinator. Approaching the position with a design background, and looking to bring all university web sites up to a high level of design.

Web Designer position still open. Currently sorting through 50+ resumes. Still welcoming anyone's resumes/portfolios. Mainly interested in the graphics end of web design.

Alumni Merchandise Online Catalog. (https://www.wright.edu/cgi-bin/alumni/payment/list.pl) Jeff Zenter put together, using a shopping cart approach. Secure payments through VeriSign. Undergoing final testing.

CaTS Comment card (http://was2.test.wright.edu/cgi-bin/cats/comment.pl?callid?=00010092) Jeff putting together for CaTS. Will be used to get user feedback from service calls. Initial testing to begin June, should be live in July.

University-wide Intranet. Sean in initial stages of intranet development. Looking to decrease traffic on listservs and provide ready access to campus information (announcements, newsletters, etc.). University-wide calendar also planned, but waiting on some decisions from CaTS before can develop. Suggestions for things you'd like to see on an intranet welcome.

Web Site Design Class. Sean putting together a web design class, similar to the Front Page class currently offered. Focus more on overall design rules/guidelines than individual programs. First draft completed 5/24. May be a pilot class this summer before fall rollout. Contact Sean if you'd like to see initial draft.

Current Redesign Efforts: Kettering Center, Financial Aid, Department of Chemistry, College of Engineering, Center for Urban and Public Affairs.

And, unfortunately, this is where my notes trail off a bit. I do want everyone to know what's going on in various departments and such, so I will make every effort to take better notes next time to make sure we're not just focusing on what the University Web Team is doing. I seem to recall, however, Kurt doing some Apache upgrades on the test server, and Michele rolling out the Library Intranet with fair success.

So, our next meeting's scheduled for June 17 at 10:00. I'll take better notes, and you guys can bring the funk.
